Episode 8 - Codependency Holistic Coach, Debbie Sherrick - Part 2

Codependency Holistic Coach, Debbie Sherrick Interview Part 2
A heart felt interview sharing one woman's journey to overcome codependency issues stemming from her childhood, Debbie shares her transformation from dependency to strength, giving valuable tips and insights. Debbie teaches others how let go of control and manipulation essentially how to make that shift from codependency to freedom.
Keeping in mind the correlation between addiction and codependency every addict's mom would benefit from listening to this interview.
    Are you codependent?

Codependency is defined as a psychological condition or a relationship in which a person is controlled or manipulated by another who is affected with a pathological condition (typically narcissism or drug addiction); and in broader terms, it refers to the dependence on the needs of, or control of, another.[1] It also often involves placing a lower priority on one's own needs, while being excessively preoccupied with the needs of others.[2] Codependency can occur in any type of relationship, including family, work, friendship, and also romantic, peer or community relationships.

[2] Codependency may also be characterized by denial, low self-esteem, excessive compliance, or control patterns.[2] Narcissists are considered to be natural magnets for the codependent.

Episode 7 Bipolar Disease and Addiction

Episode 7 Bipolar Disease and Addiction

Many people have questions about the term “dual diagnosis” and what that might mean when they hear that their loved ones are being treated at a rehab facility for this.
Dr. Tom Jensen, the medical director of the International Bipolar Foundation, along with the president and creator, Muffy Walker and member Lynn Hart Muto join Denise this week to discuss what Bipolar Disease is and how it can be related to addiction. They try to answer many of the questions brought up by loved ones about mental illness and addiction. David Sheff, the author of “Beautiful Boy” and the new book “Clean” has recently become an honorary member of this organization. Both he and his son Nic have been diagnosed with bipolar disease.

If you want to do a little “brainstorming” with Denise about your situation with your love ones or ask any questions about her story and experience, please go to her website addictsfamilylifeline.com/ and click on the calendar button in the right hand corner to make a phone appointment. Perhaps it is only a little bit of talking with someone who knows that will brighten the day!

The Addict's Mom is honored that Denise has allowed us to share our show. She is on a mission to help those whose lives are touched by addiction.

Episode 6 Addicted to Addicts: Survival 101 – What Happens at a 12 step Meeting (support group) Anyway?

Episode 6 Addicted to Addicts: Survival 101 – What Happens at a 12 step Meeting (support group) Anyway?

We often refer to “going to meetings” when we talk about recovery and sobriety. What does this mean? Today Denise’s interviews will answer questions about these meetings to remove any myths and/or mystery behind the concept of 12 step meetings. Many people have concerns and fears about attending these meetings mostly because of the “unknowing” and this show is meant to relieve that aspect and to offer knowledge so they can make informed decisions based on facts.
Family groups like Al-anon and Nar-anon were discussed as well as NA( Narcotics Anonymous) and AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) for addicts and alcoholics.
