"I wasn't giving myself permission to shop" - Episode 16 with Jannie

"I wasn't giving myself permission to shop" - Episode 16 with Jannie

Today I talked with Jannie who is enjoying her retirement and trying to focus on intentionally adding new pieces to her wardrobe. We discussed reaching a point of closet contentment and when to buy new pieces or lean into a trend. I loved seeing the themes of experimenting with style that Jannie had as a teenager that she has continued on to this day in her wardrobe. Lauren & I had a blast during our coffee chat when we talked about trend cycles and whether or not past tren...

"That rule needs to die and it needs to die, NOW" - Debunking your style myths, Episode 14

In today’s episode, I chat with Lauren about my favorite thing as a stylist: the psychology behind the clothes. I asked my Instagram community about the style messages they heard throughout their lives and I work to debunk these style myths. I was not surprised that the most common style messages people have heard are about money & feeling guilty spending money on clothes. I share that I don’t believe in the concept of an item being “age-appropriate.” I was excited to learn all about...

“The proportions just don’t fit me like I’d like” - Episode 12 with Dina

Today I’m talking with our show’s first petite guest, Dina, a wife & mom who is starting her empty-nester years and struggles to build a closet that fits her 5’ 1” petite frame. We chatted about building a cohesive closet that fits a widely varied lifestyle that includes occasional working in an office, daily life, working out, & special events. Big fan of Alison!

I’ve been following Alison for about 8 years now. Her Get Your Pretty On blog in the early days, her Outfit Formula emails, coffee chats, and OOTD’s on IG. Additionally I bought her book. I love her whole school of thought about a capsule wardrobe, only keeping the “heck yeah” pieces, and embracing the trends that feel right for me. Really enjoying her new podcast!

I learn something every show

I really love this show. I have learned a lot about myself and why I dress the way I do. Also, I have learned why I am afraid of dressing in ways that I may be noticed.
