Introducing The Art of SEL
The Art of SEL is a limited-run podcast about connecting social and emotional learning to what we already do every day in our teaching. Throughout eight episodes, host Jonathan Juravich and his guests will explore how we can help ourselves and our students understand emotions, thoughts, feelings, and behaviors and why that understanding is crucial right now.
Each episode is based on one of the core competencies of SEL, self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making, with practical applications at every turn for you and your students.
The Art of SEL is part of the AOEU podcast network.

Episode Two: Self-Awareness
In the second episode of The Art of SEL, Jonathan explores the importance of self-awareness. Self-awareness is--as Jonathan's students understand it--noticing what is happening in and around you, so that you can make a choice. The art room is full of opportunities for self-awareness, and those opportunities guide the discussion today. Jonathan is joined by Laura Naar and Geo Rutherford, the founders of the Why You Matter Initiative to discuss their work and its effect on schools and communities.

In the third episode of The Art of SEL, Jonathan dives into the topic of self-management. Self-management is the ability to manage one's emotions, thoughts, and behaviors effectively in different situations and to achieve goals and aspirations. Through art education, we have a plethora of opportunities to help students develop their self-management skills. Jonathan talks in-depth about those art room opportunities today with art educator Chelsea Dittman and professional learning director Vince DeTillio.

“Its not just another thing, it’s THE thing”
Going to be such useful information for connecting to students!
Wow!
This is just what my art teacher soul needed. Jonathan is a great host!
SEL... not just “another thing” to do.
This podcast is exactly what I need. It shows how I can add SEL into my classroom without adding ‘another thing on my plate’. So far I have learned that there are many ways to incorporate SEL into my classroom seamlessly. It has also shown me that there are many ways that I am already creating a safe learning environment for my students in ways that I didn’t even realize I was already doing. I will continue to listen and pick up new tips and tricks from Jonathan. He brings in experts and truly demonstrates the use of SEL in his art room as well.
