You just get sucked in,” says Penny, the mother of a university tutor from London. In 2017, Penny’s daughter Miranda joins a yoga charity with studios in London and Oxford. The classes make Miranda feel amazing and the people make her feel loved. “There was this sense that these people cared,” says Miranda. But as Miranda becomes more deeply involved with the international yoga movement that her group in London is part of, her mother Penny starts to worry. “When she rang us, she'd be speaking in very hushed tones,” says Penny. Miranda has fallen under the spell of guru Gregorian Bivolaru. She joins thousands of his followers from around the world on a free holiday at a coastal resort in Romania. It’s part of a search for spiritual enlightenment which will see her driven through Paris blindfolded and doing sex work in Prague. This series includes explicit sexual content and strong language. A story of miracles, faith and manipulation, told by people from around the world, who gave up everything for one of the most powerful religious figures of the century. I was enthralled and captivated from the moment this podcast started Each survivor that came forward with their stories set you on the edge of your seat not knowing what could possibly come next. Your work and dedication to this story is phenomenal. To spend over two years working on one story while risking your life in the process humbles me. Your dedication has given a voice to so many that have been ignored and shamed for being abused by a master manipulator. I hope this podcast reaches millions more and continues to motivate others to come forward.

I was so enthralled listening to this podcast. The collaboration with everyone involved was outstanding. Thank you for educating us. Growing up in apartheid South Africa, I am still angry, shocked and saddened when I hear additional accounts of the cruelty that was imposed on black South Africans. The woman who raised me as a young child with so much love, patience and warmth was not my mother, but my nanny, Rebecca, who I will never forget. I wished as a child that she was treated with the acceptance, humanity, respect and gratitude that she deserved. She never was and I am still ashamed 56 years later. The Palestinians have suffered a similar fate and there are too many similarities to the ugliness of apartheid South Africa. Free Palestine.

Season 6 - I’m not all the way through but by way of warning, this is the darkest most disgusting material I’ve ever listened to. I’ve heard some really dark podcasts but this is the worst. You can’t effectively tell this story without including the graphic detail. I give a lot of credit to the producers for not holding back. But it is going to be unbearable for many. Just be warned.

Every time I listen to a podcast or read about a cult, I just am so frustrated, but this reaches new heights. I know that hindsight is 20/20, but please don’t sacrifice your conscience for “connectivity” and enlightenment. If anyone claims to have the answers to everything you’re seeking, just assume they’re lying. No one has all the answers. And please have boundaries. Boundaries are healthy. If people are asking you to change your boundaries for them, it’s most likely not a good thing. Lord have mercy. I just can’t with the things these people did. Have boundaries! There are no simple answers to the mystery of existence. And if someone tells you to quit your job and participate in naked massage and drink piss to reach your “spiritual” peak, please run far away from them. 🙏🏽 Monsters cannot continue to destroy lives and take our power with their manipulation if we refuse to let them.
