Mr. Rogers Neighborhood Vibe (in a good way)
Jalen and John host this podcast from the perspective of Chinese American ministry leaders and it’s been a great listen. The pacing of Bamboo is calm and relaxed (think Mr. Rogers) and it’s a great representation of Christ-like patience; a much needed break from the hectic, on-the-go pace of everyday life. Also, I’m a Korean American pastor and there is much crossover between our ethnic-specific ministries, especially as it relates to bridging the generational/language divide so this podcast has been really helpful. Thanks and congrats on reaching your 50th episode!
Niche podcast that any pastor can learn from
Although these pastors are speaking of their experiences in navigating the 1st and 2nd gen Chinese church, this is not just a podcast for pastors in the same kind of church. If anyone wants to learn more about Chinese or east-Asian culture, listen up! But especially for pastors serving in Chinese churches, this is a great resource. I’m looking forward to more.
Been waiting...
I have been attending and serving in the Cantonese congregation of a few Chinese churches for the past 30+ years. It is a very unique and challenging experience when it comes to serving as ONE church...example: leading worship with all 3 congregations (3 different languages, cultures and music style). We church in ONE place yet we church as 3 different groups. I may bump into a few familiar faces every Sunday yet we never talk because we belong to a different congregation. After my family moved out of Chicago, we started to attend an American church and I attended a seminary. As Pastor Jalon mentioned, the seminary training is good yet I couldn’t find a good model to understand/to shepherd the unique need of the Northern American Chinese churches.
I have been asking and waiting to learn from other Kingdom servants like you two.
