    Childhood trauma has been shown to affect an individual's adult life outcomes. It’s very unlikely that those around them are fully aware of the negative experiences they’ve had, and because of this, may not understand behaviors that are products of trauma. Rory Beil joins us today to talk about how to best approach working with those that may have had traumatic experiences in their lives, and also discusses programs in place that can help children who are currently experiencing or have experienced trauma. The good news is,positive intervention in the life of a child who is experiencing trauma can change the course of their adult life outcomes for the better.

    According to the World Health Organization, more than 700,000 people die by suicide every year. As a former sergeant with the California Highway Patrol, Kevin Briggs is more than familiar with these startling statistics. He’s often referred to as the Guardian of the Golden Gate Bridge as he encountered countless individuals during his years of service who went to the bridge with the intent to end their life. In this Be Wellcast episode, Pete Seljevold and Elizabeth Magee talk with Kevin about his work and the lessons he learned talking with those who were contemplating suicide. He discusses the signs to watch for and advice for how to talk with someone you think may be suicidal.     Shame. The word itself can make you recoil. In this podcast, we dive deep into what shame is and what it is not. Jill R. Nelson, Ph.D., is a professor, doctoral program coordinator and associate dean of the Human Development and Education department at North Dakota State University. She breaks down shame, guilt, humiliation and embarrassment. Shame can take many forms to cause feelings of stupidity or unworthiness. But there’s hope as Dr. Nelson shares how you can work through your own shame and help support others who are feeling shame.

Misty Ibach, a Licensed Associate Counselor with Drake Counseling Services, Inc., has worked as a licensed addiction counselor and licensed mental health counselor for the past decade.
