What Goes Into the Beginning of Your Breastfeeding Journey - with Sterling Grey-Simmons
The early postpartum days and hours can be a little bit of a rollercoaster.
You're still recovering from the childbirth experience and learning to adjust to your new role as a mother.
You may not know where to turn when it comes to breastfeeding questions or how to get help if you're having trouble breastfeeding. So people will tell you that it just comes naturally, but that is not true.

From working out how much milk your baby needs each day to figuring out if there are any old wives' tales that might be causing problems for you (we know we hear them, too!), she explains how having education and support brings security every step of the way.
MORE FROM Sterling Grey- SimmonsSterling and I talked so much more about breastfeeding, milk oversupply, and life, but we also dove into real-life postpartum. VBAC Lab Student Birth Story: Gina
On today's episode, I'm talking to one of my VBAC Lab students, Gina.
She is a mom of 2, whose first birth was a cesarean due to a string of events that lead to complications.
So when she got pregnant with her second baby, Gina wanted the birth that she didn't get originally and set out to learn everything she could about having a VBAC.
Prepped with what she learned throughout our birth course, The VBAC Lab, her second birth experience was completely different than the previous one, and even though it did end up as a cesarean as well, the experience was completely different because she was armed with all the knowledge she gained and she was the one calling the shots.
Gina's birth story speaks of resilience in healing–through the ups and downs before and after giving birth.
Tune in as we discuss:
- What Gina experienced with her first birth and how she gained the strength to keep going
-How Gina prepared for her VBAC
- What hindered her from having a successful VBAC
- How she handled her second cesarean birth

VBAC Lab Student Birth Story: Rebecca Geiger
Rebecca's birth story is one of self-awareness and some really eye-opening insights on how women feel about labor that some mamas don't fully realize.
Rebecca is a mom of 2 girls who are 11 years apart and didn't get the birth that she hoped for with her first, so she was determined to have a VBAC with her second. With the help of the Labor Nurse Mama team, VBAC Lab course, and the Calm Mama Society, Rebecca was able to use the knowledge she obtained to have the type of birth she had been wanting.
Her story is so powerful and full of helpful advice and information for other mamas considering a VBAC. She talks about how important it is to have a good support system, the importance of trusting your body, and the power of self-advocacy. She also shares insights on how she prepared for labor and what she learned about herself in the process.
Rebecca's story is an inspiration for anyone considering a VBAC and it demonstrates how important preparation can be in getting the birth that you desire. We hope that Rebecca's story will give courage and strength to all the mamas who are considering a VBAC.

Understanding Birth Trauma from a Birth Trauma Survivor's Point of View
I am so excited about today's episode with our guest, Kayleigh Summers who is better known as The Birth Trauma Mama.

She shares her journey of suffering from an Amniotic Fluid Embolism during the birth of her son Callahan in 2019, which almost took her life—and how becoming a birth trauma survivor led her to create a supportive community for others who have experienced birth trauma themselves.
In this episode, we'll talk about:
-What birth trauma is
-Most common causes of birth trauma
-Signs of birth trauma
-How birth trauma impacts you
-Is there a difference between birth trauma or birth PTSD from Postpartum Depression?
-Resources if you feel you have birth trauma

Birth centers, Birth Tubs, and Fish Scoops: LNM Student Laura Reinhardt
Join me, as I talk with one of my Calm Labor Confident Birth Class students, Laura.
Laura's birth story is definitely best friend squad goals! Laura's bestie (who's studying to become a birth doula) was with her during it all— to cheer her on, and to help her through the intense moments.
In this episode, she shares her journey to a positive, unmedicated vaginal delivery of a healthy baby boy!
She tells us all about laboring at home and delivering in a birth center. She also shared how our birth course helped her have an empowered birth experience.
Laura gets real with us and shares the nitty-gritty details of what a water birth includes. You won't hear this anywhere else.
Plot twist: her best friend/Doula was the one who actually told her about Labor Nurse Mama and encouraged her to join one of the meet-and-greets we have.

Peace with Knowledge
Absolutely amazing, I have found so much comfort in the education from this podcast. Highly recommend!
Disappointing
Pain episode was literally just a half hour commercial for her workshop, repeating ad nauseum that birth has been happening since long before pain meds blabla and you just need techniques to help your brain know this is a welcome pain not a frightening one—and, you guessed it, you can learn those in the workshop! Would've been much more interesting to actually discuss the physiological/neurological basis for pain and for how the brain can be "the rewired", esp coming from an RN.
