The Chris Voss Show Podcast – STEP-UP and LEAD: A Guide for Dynamic, Innovative Leadership in Law Enforcement by Sheriff Mike Chapman

STEP-UP and LEAD: A Guide for Dynamic, Innovative Leadership in Law Enforcement by Sheriff Mike Chapman Amazon.com This book will first examine how to establish your leadership base. Whether appointed or elected, this book will provide a template on how to appeal to those who have the most influence in helping you facilitate programs you would like to initiate. It will help you understand what you should and shouldn't do to develop these programs, who should be involved in the development process, and how shared investment can positively impact your outcome. This book will detail the Step Up strategy and the importance of assessing your personal status; establishing a vision; examine "leading by example;" discuss group dynamics, workforce synergy and how to break out of the "comfort zone;" discuss servant leadership; address the importance of internal and external communications, to include various ways to directly interact with the media; how to leverage transactional relationships; discuss the source of your "power" as a leader, as well as the restrictions you face depending on the nature of your position; the various obstacles you may face from local supervisors, council members, mayors, or county executives; how your geography and area priorities may impact your ability to enact change or achieve success; the importance of expanding your influence through organizational memberships; how to deal with your adversaries; the importance of data-driven leadership, and to best pursue the best ideas for your organization as a whole, no matter where that idea originated. It is designed to provide state, local and federal law enforcement leadership with a roadmap of how to achieve success within their departments beyond what they would have previously dreamed of, how to develop ideas and initiatives that sell themselves; how they can garner the support of the boards, councils, senior executives, elected officials they serve and organizations they are associated with; and how they can get the people they serve, the voters and constituents, on their side. Finally, disloyalty, subterfuge and treachery will also be addressed. It is critical that you have a true support network, a tight circle of confidants who you can bounce ideas off without the risk of that information being compromised – people that believe in you, know what you stand for, will provide you with honest feedback, and will stick with you through thick and thin. It will describe, in detail, the STEP-Up philosophy (improved Service, Technology, Efficiency and Professionalism), conduct a deep dive into its critical elements, and provide guidance on how to design specific goals using the STEP-Up strategy. It will provide measurements for success in the respective categories and discuss how you, as a leader, can leverage these successes for even greater future successes. It will also address the need for and ability to conduct public and media outreach, where to obtain expert help to develop greater confidence, and provide a template for media success. If you are an elected official, this book will provide you with the insight and innovation you will need for re-election. If you are an appointed official, it will provide you with the insight, power and influence that could help you keep your position or advance to the next level.

The Chris Voss Show Podcast – Psychology Within the Context of Psychiatry: Closing the Translational Gap by Amy Twilegar

Psychology Within the Context of Psychiatry: Closing the Translational Gap by Amy Twilegar Amazon.com Psychology and Psychiatry are fields grounded in the assessment and treatment of clinical disorders and mental health. As such, the two professions aim to identify and treat specific psychological and physiological abnormalities within the context of psychological dysfunction; however, this convergence proves disparate when considering the divergent analytical confluence with regard to rigid structure compounds for labeling certain disorders. The criteria-based assessment variables for classifying ADHD remains fundamentally based in childhood for symptom expressions in the diagnosis across age groups; however, the etiological significance to latent trait expression remains to be obscured. This work aims to re-evaluate such emergent properties, emphasizing the role of trait-based consequences leading up to, and sustainability of, the development of adult ADHD. In efforts to exploit the necessity for reappraisal of ADHD constructs, this work aims to reorganize the structural criteria measures when considering existential variables in the classification limitations in labeling ADHD; specific to adult diagnoses, particularly with regard to etiology as well as onset, pervasive developmental effects emerge which may help to explain the adverse consequential influences of parental maltreatment in the form of neglect and/or abuse. Through a series of research and literature reviews, the manifestations of ADHD symptoms, particularly within adult populations, are carefully reviewed and analyzed to highlight etiological significance of parental maltreatment and early relationship influences to explain the developmental constructs in re-assessing adult ADHD. Such clarification efforts may serve to better understand the neurobiological constraints in light of psychological dysfunction, rendering the need to re-classify the variables in the acquisition and precursor properties leading to the development of adult ADHD. In re-conceptualizing the rigid structural criteria measures to diagnose ADHD in adulthood, this lends credence to considering developmental factors when assessing trait-based characteristics as fundamental precursors to adult-onset proclivity in the development of ADHD. Taken together, these measures call for the mapping of theoretical frameworks onto biological measures, constituting a revisionary view for a Translational Developmental Psychobiology perspective in re-classifying ADHD.

The Chris Voss Show Podcast – Rebooting Tech Culture: How to Ignite Innovation and Build Organizations Where Everyone Can Thrive by Telle Whitney

Rebooting Tech Culture: How to Ignite Innovation and Build Organizations Where Everyone Can Thrive by Telle Whitney Amazon.com Drive a more innovative, inclusive culture that welcomes all talent. Many technology leaders believe in having more women and people of color in technical and leadership positions throughout their organizations. In truth, though, they just fall back on exclusionary behaviors, like revering the typically male "lone genius" who is essential to their innovative future. Why the disconnect? According to Telle Whitney, cofounder of the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing, while tech leaders may want to talk about inclusivity, few actually change their cultures to dismantle the unwelcoming environment, fearful that doing so will compromise innovation. Women and people of color pay the price, facing exclusive and even hostile workplaces. They're held back from professional growth and, in many cases, choose to leave the industry altogether. But there is a solution. In Rebooting Tech Culture, Whitney argues that the same values at the heart of innovation—creativity, courage, confidence, curiosity, communication, and community—can also foster a culture that’s welcoming to all employees. Drawing on more than fifty interviews with tech executives and a survey of a thousand people in tech, she shows how these "six Cs" can power real change in technology organizations, creating workplaces where anyone can be successful and where innovation thrives. Today, every company is a tech company. By understanding how to apply these values and reinvigorate their cultures, leaders will learn how to eliminate the behaviors holding their teams back from true belonging, growth, and innovation. About the author Telle Whitney is a senior executive leader, an entrepreneur, and a recognized advocate and expert on women and technology. She has over 30 years of leadership experience and was named one of Fast Company’s Most Influential Women in Technology. She is a frequent speaker on the topic of Women and Technology. She is an accomplished technologist who spent twenty years in the semiconductor industry in Silicon Valley. Telle has been called “a pioneer for the promotion of women technologists” and “one of the most inspirational leaders I have ever known.”
