Surviving a Full to Empty Nest Transition with Matt Meline

We only have 18 summers with our kids, and then they're gone. As much as we don't wanna think about it. Our kids will not be under our own roof forever. Today, my guest and I talk about ways we can embrace moments, be a hundred percent present with our kids, create a relationship with our wives, where it feels like we're always newly dating, no matter how long we've been together and how we can save for the future.
Father of 4 graduates and loving husband, Matt Meline is the founder and CEO of PrairieFire, a company dedicated to helping financial planning and advice.
Matt is committed to improving his clients' quality of life through better money planning and investments by building the components to help families prepare so that when their children go to college it is not an issue of stress or conflict, and helping them plan for an exciting empty nest lifestyle along with a financial plan for the second half of their lives.
A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, Matt traveled the Midwest primarily as senior manager for various banking organizations but in the mid 1990s decided to become a full time financial planner.

Great interview

Came across the interview with Sam @ Financial Samurai - loved it. I’ve followed Sam for a long time and have always appreciated how he keeps it real from everything finance related to raising kids. And yes, Buy This Not That is the best personal finance book I’ve read by far. It’s a book to reference over and over again. Thanks for hosting!

I’ve been a part of the Alliance for about 6 months. Starting out I wasn’t motivated to participate in the mastermind calls. Then one day I clicked. I’m investing in my own growth and betterment as a husband and father. There’s skin in the game. So I may as well get the most from this investment in myself. Because of that there has been a shift in mindset from what can I get out of this to what can I bring to the table to make a difference in the lives of my fellow Alliance members and by extension the men in my work and family circles.
This mission to be better started for me much like it did for Larry Hagner. In 2018 I was a stay at home father of triplets and a newborn. It was a lot to handle. I failed huge. Thanks to the Alliance I have learned how to turn those failing moments into learning experiences. I’ve become a man who is no longer stuck in the mire of self condemnation. Today I am a warrior, clothed and equipped with tools to be the best husband and father God has created me to be. The Alliance has helped me find my core values and understanding who I am as a father, husband, and man.
Family is core to who I am. I seek to love, support, and provide for them in ways they need and desire. I am courageous in the face of opposition. A wall to my enemies, and a rock to those who lean on me. I love God, family and country at all times. I seek opportunities for growth and development. Personal, spiritual, mental, physical, financial, and emotional well being are important so I can show up and be the best for man for my family.
