Swept up in the Deadpool of It All

Swept up in the Deadpool of It All

You just can’t kill us, unless we’re wearing something on our necks that means you can. We’re back to cover 2018’s “Deadpool 2,” which bring you… more Deadpool. Not necessarily a bad thing, but should it have tried to elevate its game? Does its ending completely invalidate the story? And what’s the serious plot element at the center of the ridiculous meta superhero action?...

    The Real Villain is Trauma

    The Real Villain is Trauma

With a third movie on the way, it’s time for us to tackle an R-rated “X-Men” spinoff, everyone’s favorite glutton for punishment, 2016’s “Deadpool.” Did it pass the test of skeptical first-time viewers? Does its balance of humor and ultraviolence work? And why did we find this deeply unserious movie strangely affecting?...

You Can't Protect People From "Doctor Who"

Put on your mouse ears and step into the TARDIS! We’re discussing the return (rebirth? regeneration?) of “Doctor Who” in 2024, this time on Disney+ (and the BBC). It’s a new era with an old showrunner. How did the 2023 specials hit us, where should curious viewers start watching, and what are our hopes for the coming season?...

Weird Guy in the Meat Locker

Weird Guy in the Meat Locker

Why does discussing the overlooked 1991 classic “Dead Again” feel like we’re living a past life? Maybe it’s the shock of seeing young Sir Kenneth Branagh (attempting a weird American accent) and Dame Emma Thompson. Maybe it’s Sir Derek Jacobi making us wonder if that stutter is an “I, Claudius” reference. Maybe it’s the whole romantic fantasy thing, with a Hitchcockian past intruding on a 1990s present....

    Arguably the Saddest Record

It’s time to celebrate the music of the first decade of this century via our 2000s album draft! From opera to show tunes, we’ve got several musical styles covered—and those are just Andy’s picks! Why do James’s picks leave us cold? What is Erika’s favorite Beat Saber band? Why does Kelly use karaoke as therapy? How does Shelly tactically use remixes? And why did Brian insist on editing this episode?...

Eh. It’s ok.

Quality of episodes depends on which guests are on. Some guests are good and others are awful. There is no disagreement on anything amongst the hosts just complete group think.

It gets too woke at times. Attempts to cram feminism or pick your woke topic into conversations has left me rolling my eyes and deleting shows too often. Whether it’s lobbying for Hercules to be pansexual or counting the number of women in Batman Begins you can see where some conversations go.

Also yeah the girl who cannot like um speak you know like yeah without um and uh like needs to go you know like yeah.

Addition to previous review: the wokeness continues to grow and newer guests pale in comparison to older guests.

Every movie discussion I have listened to they get offended by something. It’s like they sit down beforehand and make it a point to find something to virtue signal about. It must be difficult in life finding things to be offended by.

I have given this podcast more chances than it deserved because I like movie related podcasts but this one is unlistenable.

Incomparable Groupthink

There have been an increasing number of episodes over the last couple of years that have left me more angry than thoughtful or entertained.

What it comes down to is this: there seem to be more and more ignorant, uneducated takes and misunderstandings or misrepresentations, and the group just goes along with it. It’s like listening to Stella Zinman (Sarah Chalke) from HIMYM describe why she hated Star Wars, except instead of having someone push back, everyone nods along and is like, “Yeah, why do they act like the talking bear is contributing?”

I think it’s time for me to check out. At least when ScreenCrush’s Ryan Arey makes a boneheaded take (or a whole season of ‘em), you can expect him to address it in a future video. No such mea culpas from an Incomparable panel.
