The James Bond Complex is hosted by Edgar Chaput, Mathieu Auclair, Jason Kim and the Intrepid Emery Cormier. From Fleming to the films and everything in between. Ooh!
Die Another Day Reloaded
2002 marks the 20th anniversary of well... The 20th Bond film; Die Another Day. Is this Bombactic, Bond Adventure still as loathed by 007 fans today as it was at the time of it's release? Is the Korean spoken with the proper accent? Do the subtitles match what the actors are actually saying? Well, you'll have to listen in to find out if this film warrants a new evaluation or if it's still is the worst film of the series?...
Editing Bond with Simon Drake - Part 5: The Craig era
Hello dear listeners!
Welcome back to the final lap of our Editing Bond series. It's been an extended but always stimulating dissection of how our favourite films are put together. Independent filmmaker Simon Drake returns once more with his experience and expertise as we give you Part 5: The Craig era.
This concluding chapter of the conversation sees our minds rattle off a bevy of intimately related and totally superfluous topics such as: following up on our terrific Irish accents with horrible American accents, good editors don't always make for good directors, the beauty of the whip pan, our interpretation of "bold" editing, editing that has our brains fight with the movie, experiencing a high speed car chase as a vacation activity, doing our best to not pass judgement on Sam Mendes, franchise legacies influencing how stories are told, and much more.
So sit back, relax, don't cut us out of your weekly routine, and enjoy this latest episode of The James Bond Complex.
Galaxy Detour: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Hello dear padawans!
This week we’re putting away the Walther PPK and dinner jackets in place of lightsabers and jedi robes.
Why? Search your feelings. You know it to be true!
The 5th (2nd?) Star Wars movie, The Empire Strikes Back has many connections to the world of James Bond, not least of which is a small role played by Julian Glover, who, as some listeners may recall, chatted with Matt and Edgar way back in the summer of 2018 at a comic convention. Then of course there is the film’s director, Irvin Kershner, who also helmed Never Say Never Again. We know, we know, that’s not a real Bond movie…
In celebration of May the 4th, Matt, Edgar, and Jason sit down and meditate about what is widely considered to be the best of the Star Wars epics. Among the Force visions that come to them: finding as many Bond tie ins as possible both real and imagined, watching the original trilogy on VHS, being distressed as a 2nd grader kid, parents noticing ads for Star Wars featuring (if you can believe it) actors that play in Star Wars, samurai/Nazi Darth Vader, Force zoom calls, speaking in tongues no human on Earth will ever use in a normal conversation, and much more.
So sit back, relax, and let us take you to a galaxy far, far away, but right now!
You love the show? We know.
Editing Bond with Simon Drake - Part 4: The Brosnan Era
Hello dear listeners,
It's a new week, with new challenges, but you can still count on one podcast.
The James Bond podcast. Were you expecting someone else?
That's right, we're back to observe and dissect the editing of the Pierce Brosnan films, from GoldenEye through Die Another Day. With us on this journey is non other than friend of the show and resident indie filmmaker Simon Drake. These four films are so jam packed with incredible content that we simply couldn't help ourselves bu go off on many brilliant topics: French accents while saying the tittle of books, marvellous Irish accents, Brosnan's Roger Moore outfits, the great Bond art project, C-3PO's golden rod, the last of the Bond dingy endings, finding positive reviews of TWINE "interesting", DAD being the Poochie the Dog of the Bond films, and much more!
So sit back, relax, dab the sweat off your forehead and chin, and enjoy the latest episode of The James Bond Complex!
The Gotham Detour: The Batman (2022)
Welcome back to Gotham city! Things have changed since the last time we took a trip to that fictional city. Christian Bale & Ben Affleck are no longer the Batman du jour. They've been replaced by Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader. The director chair once under the responsability of Christopher Nolan & Zack Snyder is now under the control of Matt Reeves who even co-wrote this latest adaptation of the famous DC comics character.
Discussing the film in this episode are Jason & Matt who will give you the nitty-gritty details of "The Batman"!
Editing Bond with Simon Drake - Part 3: the 80s
Hello dear listeners,
For a series of episodes dedicated to editing, one would think that we’d have edited down this elongated conversation to size. Fun fact: we have, even at 5 parts.
This week Mathieu, Edgar, and friend of the show Simon Drake are back at the round table. In this latest instalment, the Bond films under analysis are from the nostalgia decade du jour: the 80s.
Much like with Parts 1 and 2, this time the films of John Glen prove fertile ground for all sorts of enlightened commentary: 2 for 1 shots, seeing shadows at nighttime, women of the night showing up for a job at 5:30am, early risers, a child’s wonderment at seeing Roger Moore fight, fan edits, John Glen vs Ridley Scott, Super Bond fan Rick Moranis, and much more.
So sit back, relax, and bask in the glory of 80s filmmaking with us.
Part 3 begins with another instalment of our mockumentary The Making of Bomb Voyage.
Cast (in order of appearance):
Rodrigo Gonzalez: disclaimer reader
Bud West: narrator
Pierre-Oliver Bernier: making of documentary director
Mathieu Nadeau (aka Matt#2): documentary cameraman
Edgar Chaput: Bomb Voyage director
Mathieu Auclair: Bomb Voyage producer
Insightful, well done podcast
Mixing both insight and entertainment, Matt and Edgar create a fantastic listening experience for any Bond fan. Delving not into just the movies but a bevy of topics for those of us afflicted with the worst kinds of Bond sickness. The James Bond Complex is a must for any Bond fan.
Great knowledge! Great humor!!

Love THIS Podcast!!!!
Edgar and Matt are great!!!!
Love to listen to your discussions. I often agree with your views, too.
But today's podcast was only in French and I couldn't understand it. I live in Los Angeles so I only speak English.
I hope all the other podcasts will be in English.
