The Different Ways Grief Shows Up | Journey 40 w/Vivian Nunez

The Different Ways Grief Shows Up | Journey 40 w/Vivian Nunez

On this episode I’m joined by Vivian Nunez, a writer and content creator. We begin by discussing Vivian’s platform and what led her to start it, talking about grief and the difference between grieving at ten versus twenty-one. Continuing on grief, we talk about how grief for every person is different and shows up differently for every loss. I then ask Vivian what she would recommend to someone supporting someone else who is grieving. Afterwards we talk about how accomplishment varies for each person on a daily basis – for some, it’s just getting out of bed, for others it can look much different. The next subject of our conversation is balance; how balance can look different, and be more flexible than simply “everything is equal” at all times. We then discuss the practice of taking care of ourselves, and how difficult it can be when you’re accustomed to taking care of others instead. We also talk about social media and how it’s actually helped the conversation around mental health grow. Vivian also recounts this impactful quote from one of her friends; “I can’t turn on the light, but I can sit with you in the dark.”

A Conversation on Mental Health and Toxic Masculinity | Journey 39 w/ Ryan Forsyth

On this episode, I’m joined by Ryan Forsyth an award-winning mental health speaker and advocate, and the host of Life in Red Podcast. We begin by getting some insight into Ryan’s life, and what led him to become an advocate in the first place, then we talk about the importance of reaching out to someone when you’re carrying a weight by yourself, before discussing how to balance the pressure of sharing with healthy boundaries. Next, we talk about the desire to belong, and the ‘why’ behind what we do. We then discuss niches and authenticity, and then move on to toxic masculinity and what makes it ‘toxic.’ Then we talk about activism and intergenerational trauma, and how trauma itself is not a competition. Finally, I ask Ryan about his experience discussing polarizing topics.

The Mental Link to Physical Movement | Journey 38 w/Sara Raymond

The Mental Link to Physical Movement | Journey 38 w/Sara Raymond

On this episode, I’m joined by Sara Raymond, a hypnotherapist, and Pilates instructor from Maryland. She is a mother of two and one of the founders of The Mindful Movement. We start off by talking about the road that led Sara to hypnotherapy and transformational coaching, I then ask about her history with teaching, before we start discussing how triggers from our childhoods can lead to childish reactions as adults, and how curiousity is an important first step towards correcting those responses. We then talk about spirituality and our initial aversions to it, before discussing our journeys towards believing that we are enough. Then I ask Sara about hypnotherapy, how she found it, and what it really is. I talk about living our lives around “shoulds,” where Sara shares her experience living that way before she began to question it and work towards breaking the cycle.
