Some have chosen to leave in search of a more stable life; some have chosen to stay, and some have chosen not to move back to Lebanon in the first place. We will interview Lebanese physicians working in Lebanon and beyond to get their opinions about the events taking place in Lebanon, the future of medicine in Lebanon, and the role Lebanese physicians play worldwide in their respective fields, and their connections to their home county. We will highlight success stories, stories that were not so successful, and everything in between. Medical students, physicians-in-training, and attending physicians at different points in their careers will be interviewed.

    The US healthcare market is complex and difficult for patients to navigate. Specialist appointments are hard to find with long waiting times. Access to primary care providers is becoming difficult in certain markets. In this episode, we discuss with David Silverstein this complex landscape and his involvement with pushing for price transparency in the market and succeeding through executive orders. We then discuss his development of AMaze, working with employers, to provide immediate access to virtual care for their employees for both preventative and urgent issues (physical and mental health), and assisting these employees with getting the necessary appointments. By disrupting and the way the US healthcare market is functioning, AMaze has been able to decrease insurance costs on employers by having healthier employees both physically and mentally.

We also discuss its role in connecting providers in underserved areas of the country with specialists through curbsides to decide on the best course of treatment. We then discuss the benefits of early referrals and curbsides in reducing healthcare costs and decreased unnecessary ER visits.

    In this episode, we discuss the outcomes of the year-long project that medical students conduct at LAU in which Myriam and her colleagues under the mentorship of Dr. Abi Gerges looked at the effects of the Lebanese economic crisis on access to hypertension and diabetes treatment between 2021 and 2022. The effects of the crisis were eye opening and revealing, and the numbers can be used to build on policy in the future. An episode not to be missed.
