nice podcast!

thank you for keeping it real! and for taking the teacher’s side, too. “Sold a Story” was for sure eye-opening and important work, but teachers are feeling lots of guilt right now. Thank you for acknowledging our perspective and encouraging us. In other topics . . . Pleaseeee consider, though, TpT isn’t always bad! I create slides and am lucky enough to sell them because I can’t make a living solely off my teacher’s salary. :( Just the way it is being a teacher . . . I love being an educator and feel grateful to share my resources with other teachers. Even more, I’m grateful to continue doing the job I love even though it doesn’t pay enough for me to live on my own (hence the TPT). Just wanted to put that out there . . . I’ll keep listening and keep up the great work :)

Disappointed

I was very disappointed with that “living to read” vs “loving to read” episode. I felt like you were dismissive of the idea that kids that are struggling to read bc they can’t decide DON’T enjoy it! That’s the whole point. So when you talk about kids needing to have the opportunity to just make up stories etc it is dismissing that when it’s already at a point where they know they can’t read, they don’t want to do that. I watched my son go from not ready at all to reading Harry Potter after one summer of private tutoring before 3rd grade. He needed direct deciding instruction. He is now 17 and just got a 34 and 32 on his English and Reading act test. He is so bright. I thought he had a reading disability and if I could not afford to get him private tutoring I can’t not imagine where he would be. It is a shame that so many kids do not get the instruction they need. I did not feel sold a story blamed teachers. It is simply trying to reveal the best method to teach kids.
