Thank you for the deep and interesting conversations. If you want to listen (and think as you listen!) to nuanced, knowledgeable, and complicated analysis- this is the podcast for all cinephiles.

This podcast devises a great plan for revisiting classic films or forgotten oddities or masterpieces. They prompted me to watch some old films, like “An American in Paris” and “The Thief of Baghdad”. At the same time, the discussion of movies often gets needlessly picky, digressing into mocking little moments in the film while laughing insufferably. I am thinking especially of Tasha Robinson, one of the co hosts, who often misses the broader emotional movement of a film and just complains about “men” or “traditional values” for a half hour. My taste aligns most with Scott Tobias and Genevieve, so I like them. Keith likes most movies, especially 70s dramas and thrillers and seems to value classic films more than the others. It’s strange to hear cinephiles hate on movies for being out of date when they could just be grateful for getting a time capsule and a glimpse into another social order. They have a good variety of genre films-superhero, action… and experimental films, acclaimed dramas… They even snuck a Kiezlowski film in! But again, Tasha Robinson alone makes this a very flawed podcast.

I always look forward to interesting analysis of movies of the past, however, I’m often disappointed by everyone in the space being woke. Absolutely trashing some of the greatest movies ever through this lens of representation. It’s all just pretentious and a bit too much.

Along with filmspotting, I attribute all of my movie knowledge from the folks on the next picture show. Even if I haven’t seen the movie yet, I listen to this as soon as it appears in my feed.
