Day 311 | Jerusalem, the vine, will be burned | Hebrews 8: Jesus Our High Priest

Day 311 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. In Ezekiel 13-15, the prophet Ezekiel condemns the false prophets of Israel for misleading the people with lies and visions of their own making. God declares that he will not answer those who consult these prophets and idols, and He emphasizes the individual responsibility for sin, stating that even if a land were righteous, each person would be judged separately for their own actions. In Hebrews 8, the writer discusses Jesus as our high priest, who serves in the true heavenly tabernacle set up by the Lord. This chapter also highlights a new covenant God makes with His people, promising to write His laws in their hearts and minds, which is contrasted with the old covenant that was not faultless. Day 310 | Prophecies against the leaders | Hebrews 7: Christ is a priest like Melchizedek

Day 310 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. In Hebrews 6:13-7:10, the author speaks about God's promise to Abraham, emphasizing how God swore by Himself to bless Abraham, ensuring the unchangeability of His purpose with an oath. This offers hope and encouragement to the followers, likened to an anchor for the soul. The passage then transitions to Melchizedek, a mysterious priest-king from Genesis, who met Abraham. Unlike other priests, Melchizedek's priesthood is unique and eternal, not based on hereditary ties. Abraham gave him a tenth of everything, which illustrates the greatness of Melchizedek's priesthood, even greater than that of the descendants of Levi, who also receive tithes from the people according to the law. This comparison sets the stage for the discussion on the priesthood of Jesus, which is in the order of Melchizedek—superior and eternal. Hebrews 7:11-28 argues that Jesus' priesthood, according to Melchizedek's order, is superior to the Levitical priesthood, offering a perfect, lasting sacrifice once for all, unlike the continual, insufficient sacrifices of the Levites. Jesus, perfect and eternal, intercedes for humanity, ensuring a better covenant with God. Day 309 | The Lord shows Ezekiel disgusting things | Hebrews 6: Two things God cannot change

Day 309 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. In Ezekiel 7-9, the prophet Ezekiel relays a series of visions and prophecies about the severe judgment coming to Israel because of its extensive corruption and idolatry. God tells Ezekiel that the end is near for His people in their land because of their abominable deeds. Ezekiel sees a vision of punishment with a sign of impending doom marked on Jerusalem. Then he witnesses six men with deadly weapons and a seventh man with a writing kit sent to the city. The man with the writing kit marks the foreheads of those who grieve over the detestable things done in the city, sparing them from the slaughter, while the others are not so lucky. Ezekiel's vision serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of turning away from God's ways. Day 308 | Ezekiel acts out God's coming wrath | Hebrews 5: Do not fall away

Day 308 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. Ezekiel 4-6 tells the tale of Ezekiel doing some serious performance art to show Israel's impending doom. He lies on his side for hundreds of days, bakes bread over cow dung, and even shaves his head as a dramatic way to say, "Hey, bad times are coming because of all the bad stuff you've done." The people have been off worshiping idols and forgetting their roots, and now they're going to pay the price. God's pretty upset, to put it mildly, and is ready to hand out some serious divine discipline, like a parent who's found their kid drawing on the walls with permanent marker. In Hebrews 5:11-6:12, the writer is basically saying, “Listen up, I have a lot to say about this Jesus-being-a-high-priest business, but it's tough because you're slow to catch on.” He's nudging the readers to grow up in their faith, move beyond the basic teachings about Christ, and dig into the meatier stuff. There's a bit of a warning too – if you fall away after tasting the good stuff God has offered, it's as hard to come back as it is for a scorched field to be green again. But he's not all doom and gloom; he encourages them to be diligent and not lazy, imitate those who through faith and patience inherited God's promises, like inheriting a family recipe and finally getting it right after lots of practice. Day 307 | Ezekiel sees visions from God | Hebrews 4: Jesus the High Priest

Day 307 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. Ezekiel has this wild vision with super complex and vivid images—a storm, creatures with four faces and wings, wheels within wheels, and above all, a throne with a figure glowing like fire. This figure is the glory of God, and He's commissioning Ezekiel to be a prophet. God warns Ezekiel that he's being sent to the Israelites who are stubborn and rebellious, but he must speak God's words to them anyway, whether they listen or not. God gives Ezekiel a scroll with sad words and tells him to eat it. It's sweet as honey in his mouth. Ezekiel is then filled with the Spirit and told to go speak to Israel. Hebrews 4:14-5:10 serves as a spiritual pep talk about sticking with Jesus because He's not just some high-and-mighty high priest, but one who gets us on every level. He's been through the wringer, too, but never messed up, so we should feel totally cool about being open with God, thanks to Him. Then it shifts to talk about every high priest being picked from among us humans, dealing gently with our mess-ups because they're no strangers to personal weakness themselves. And just like they didn't just waltz into the job, Jesus didn't either—He was chosen by God. His real street cred comes from how He handled suffering, which made Him the perfect leader, forever in the business of bringing us closer to God. Day 306 | Judah's enemies will be judged | Hebrews 4: God's Word is alive

Day 306 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. After the people turn back to God, He feels sorry for them. He promises to send lots of food and remove the scary locusts. God also says He'll make up for the bad years and send dreams and visions to people. But there's a big day coming where other nations will be judged for how they treated Israel. In the end, God's home, Jerusalem, will be a safe place and everyone will know that God is in charge. In Hebrews, even though God promised a restful place, some people didn't get there because they didn't trust Him. But we still have a chance. We should try hard to enter that peaceful place and not doubt like they did. God's word is powerful, and it can see deep inside us. Nothing is hidden from God; He sees everything. Day 305 | Joel warns of a locust plague | Hebrews 3: Jesus is greater than Moses

Day 305 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. There's a big locust invasion that's ruining all the crops. Joel tells the people that this is a wake-up call from God. Things are really bad, and even the animals are sad because there's no food. Joel urges everyone to fast, cry, and gather at God's house to ask for His help. In Hebrews, the writer talks about how Jesus is greater than Moses. Just like a builder is more important than the house he built, Jesus is more important than Moses. But people should be careful. If they don't believe and trust in God, their hearts can become hard and they might turn away from Him. Day 304 | Obadiah tells of the Lord's wrath on Edom | Hebrews 2: Why Jesus became human

Day 304 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. Obadiah warns the Edomites (a group living in the mountains) that bad times are coming for them because they acted mean to their relatives, the Israelites, during Israel's rough patch. God's not happy with Edom's pride and betrayal, so He's going to make them fall big time. In the end, Israel will come back strong and take over the places Edom took from them, while Edom will disappear. It's a message about payback and God taking care of His own. People shouldn't ignore what God says. Jesus, who was made a little lower than angels for a bit, suffered death to help everyone. Because of this, he's now super important and above angels. Jesus became like humans to truly understand and help them, especially when they mess up.
