The Philadelphia Phillies Split With The Cincinnati Reds As Zack Wheeler Dominates Again
-
POSTCAST: Phillies top Reds 5-0, Earn Series Split
The Philadelphia Phillies earned a split over their four-game series with the Cincinnati Reds winning Game 4, 5-0.
Zack Wheeler tossed 6-scoreless innings in route to his 2nd win of the season, striking out 8 and lowering hit era to 1.93. Ryan kerkering came on in relief to pitch 1.2ip allowing just 1 hit and issuing one walk, before Jeff Hoffman came in to shut down the Reds for the final 1.1 innings.
Segment 1: THREE BIG THINGS: 1) Zack Wheeler and the Phillies starting pitchers stay red hot! Second lowest ERA through the 1st 26 games since 1913! 2) welcome back Bryce Harper! Hits his fifth home run of the season with 2-run shot in the third. The guy loves big moments! 3) Rob Thompson tinkers with the lineup promoting Alec Bohm to back clean up and has Orion Kerkering record not just three but 5 outs!
Segment 2: Hot and cold: Cold, Rojas cools off with 0-for-4 day from the plate. Hot: Trea Turner another multi hit game.
Segment 3: Look ahead at the Phillies West Coast Trip! -
POSTCAST: Bullpen & Bats struggle as Phillies Fall to Reds, 7-4
The Philadelphia Phillies lost to the Cincinnati Reds 7-4 as the Phils’ bullpen surrendered 6 runs, 4 of them charged to SerAnthony Dominguez who pitched just 2/3 of an inning. That effort from the bullpen as well as the Phillies bats going just 4-for-16 with runners in scoring position wasted a solid start from Spencer Turnbull. The veteran righty tossed 5 innings of one run baseball in what was likely his last start of the season with Taijuan Walker returning to the rotation.
Segment 1: THREE BIG THINGS 1) SerAnthony Dominguez’ struggles have become far too much! He threw 32 pitches tonight only sixteen of those were for strikes. All while being charged for four runs in just 2/3 of an inning. 2) Bats could not get the big hit opportunities to break the game wide open in the 2nd 3rd 5th and 7th innings came up small. 3) Hat tip to Alec Bohm for his four hits and two RBI's he deserves to be a top of the order hitter.
Segment 2: Good for Johan Rojas figuring it out! Another hit today after being down in the count. Send SerAnthony down to AAA ball.
Segment 3: Look ahead to the 4th and final game of this series. -
POSTCAST: Phillies' Win Streak comes to Crashing Halt!
The Phillies winning streak snapped at seven games thanks to an 8-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds in game two of their four-game series. Christopher Sanchez was pulled after just three innings of work and 74 pitches surrendering 5 runs though only one was earned. While Sanchez struggled so did the defense behind him. The Phillies committed 3 errors in the game that led to four runs by the close of the 3rd inning. Edmundo Sosa, Cristian Pache and Alec Bohm were all charged with Errors on the night.
Segment 1: THREE BIG THINGS! 1) Christopher Sanchez just didn’t have it tonight. 74pitches through 3ip. 2) No Defense to back him up either while he was in the ball game. 3) Where were the bats?
Segment 2: Schwarber and Turner’s approach tonight. NO GREAT!
Segment 3: Rojas is looking like a big leaguer again! -
