    99. Bringing Respect And Dignity Back To The Trades - With Tom Reber, Owner of Contractor Fight

In this episode of The Real Build, I got the opportunity to have on Top Contractor coach Tom Reber.  Tom and I had an in-depth conversation about the things contractors should be doing to deliver a better experience to clients.  If you are someone looking to build a home, this is a must listen to episode!

Over the past several years, Tom and his team have helped 1000’s of home improvement contractors earn the respect & dignity equal to the value that they bring to their clients.

He understands you and the challenges you face because you ARE contractors.

One way he does this is through his Contractor Sales Academy training program.

For over five years, they have been training contractors to sell VIRTUALLY to their prospects. Nobody teaches this better than his team. they train them to connect with their prospects in ways their competitors never will, and in turn, they sell more jobs at 50% and more gross profit margins without setting foot on a prospect's property.

    98. What To Do When Building A Custom Home Part 1 - Before The Build

    98. What To Do When Building A Custom Home Part 1 - Before The Build

In this episode of The Real Build, I wanted to discuss what a customer should do when building a custom home.  This will be a three-part series highlighting before, during, and after a build and what customers need to do.  In this episode, I cover before the build.  Some topics I cover are the following.

Financing - Must get this lined up - takes time - Plans - contract - Get initial paperwork done.

Lot selection - Get a builder's opinion - Finding a builder before purchasing a lot is excellent. I get customers lots all the time. I look at the dirt, seawalls, animals on the lot, set back restrictions.

Budget - Have this in mind - Starting with the lot and then home. How much do you have for both? Plan on having a little more to spend than what you initially think

Floorplans - Look at a variety of floorplans and pick elements you like from each. A custom builder can add all elements you want

Look at model homes, Builder portfolios, Pinterest, Houzz, parade of homes, Sand dollar awards.

Meet the team - Are the builder's team people you will be comfortable working with? How do they all work? What is there process of each person?

Timeline - Need to ask your builder for a rough timeline - 18 months to build a home need to know when selections need to be made. A rough idea of stages. The idea of payment structure. Selling a house have a plan.

Architecture/design - Is the builder involved in this process? Is there a designer? They should be engaged at the blueprint stage.

Know what you are getting - features list - ask a lot of questions - all about details. What is behind the walls? No blind spots do as much research as possible but ask ask ask.

Review contract - hire a local attorney to review. Ask questions and state your concerns.

Know the permitting process and what to expect.

The series will be scattered a little, so the next part I will cover during the build.  That part will be launched in a few weeks

    95. Generosity, Giving, and Reciprocity In Life and Business - With Cason Parker Of Westshore Financial Group

In this episode of The Real Build, I got to have a long-time friend Cason Parker on the show.  Cason and I went to college together at The University of South Florida and have been friends ever since.  I was excited when Cason asked me to come on my show because Cason is a financial advisor.  With many shifts in the financial world and government happening, I had to have Cason on.

Cason is always willing to offer a helping hand or listen.  This is what has brought Cason success. His goal: To help people make appropriate financial decisions throughout life. Cason is also a mentor to members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon at the University of South Florida and around the country in how to be better leaders and gentlemen.  He's always looking for ways to help people grow.  He strives to help people make appropriate financial decisions throughout life. 94. Building Homes And Creating More Educational Opportunities For Kids In The Construction Industry - With Ben Beard, Owner Of Red Cliff Homes

    94. Building Homes And Creating More Educational Opportunities For Kids In The Construction Industry - With Ben Beard, Owner Of Red Cliff Homes

In this episode of The Real Build, I spoke with Ben Beard, owner of Red Cliff Homes.  Ben is a production home builder in Las Cruces, New Mexico.  He specializes in homes that exceed client's expectations without exceeding their budget.  Ben is also committed to bringing technical education to Las Cruces high schools. Red Cliff Homes seeks to bring technical education to young people to leave high school equipped with the skills they need to get high-paying jobs in construction and other technical, hands-on career fields.  This was a big point Ben and I talked about.  There is a lack of labor in the construction industry.  Now it is more important than ever to get construction education back into schools.

Ben got involved with residential building as a high school student, where he took classes in general construction and electrical wiring. He then worked at a plumbing supply shop and as a framer before leaving on a 2-year proselyting mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Upon returning from missionary service, He attended Brigham Young University and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management while working part-time to gain industry experience.  After graduating in 2012, he moved to Las Cruces, where he worked as a Superintendent and Purchasing Manager for a local builder.

In 2017 he launched Red Cliff Homes with a dream to serve the Las Cruces community.
