S5, Ep 4 - The Love's Beautiful Birth Story: A story of true love, conscious conception, intense fear of birth, motherline death, three parents and a short intense labour in New Zealand
Today's podcast is a beautiful story of love, magic, loss and ecstasy.
Lauren Godfrey-Love and Lauren Fitzgerald-Love, both meditation teachers, share the story of their daughter's birth, Goldie and all the moments that led up to her arrival.
This is much more than a birth story.
We talk about conceiving during COVID across multiple borders with a Goldies' Dad, Lauren G's mum passing away during pregnancy and the inclusion of her spirit at the birth.
In this episode we also discuss:
* How a partner's fear and distress can arise during birth from their own birthing imprints.
* The benefit of working with skilled midwives to help malposition during labour
* Getting postpartum support when family and friends are not around
* Maori traditions, birth in New Zealand
* 'Micro-dosing' online birth education to gently address intense fear of childbirth
* The impact a Soul Mama Circle has had in processing the mind body and soul shifts as Lauren journeys into matrescence
I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did. I couldn't think of a better way to celebrate motherhood this Mother's Day than with a double mumma family.
Thank you for sharing your love and family so beautifully with us Lauren G and Lauren F.

S5, Ep 2 - 'Doing the work' and staying embodied during a challenging birth. Varlie's birth story told by Donna and Adam
Listen in to the Birth Story of Varlie told by Donna and Adam. 'Doing the work' and staying embodied during a challenging birth. The real power of a birth story comes from the deeper sharing. Sharing the shadow and sharing the work.
This story is a prime example of a couple 'doing the work'. A She Births® family, Donna @this.is.donna Adam, baby Varli and dog Billie. I first met them during our weekend course here in Byron Bay. They are an embodied couple, both surfers, a great bodyworker and carpenter.
They talk about the body to be a guide and lead the way in our preparation and our healing is key - it is a portal where we can learn to let go of all the beliefs and ideas that no longer serve us.
Bodywork and shadow work are so important in the motherhood journey. Our tears, our letting go, our crisis are all opportunities for powerful transformation. Just like pain is a portal for power.
In this episode we chat about:
How they scripted their birth
How they scripted each trimester
How they chose to rewrite their family lineage
How labour was irregular and even stopped
Using active birth strategies like duck walking to help with an asynclitic head presentation
Osteopath's help with lactation
A partner and doula's role throughout pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum.
S5, Ep 1 - The Truth About Attachment Parenting And The Power Of Delight In Motherhood With Bethany Saltman
Welcome to Season 5 episode 1 - What Is Attachment Parenting REALLY? In this episode we explore the origins & value of a soul lead motherhood.
Our guest today is Bethany Saltman - an author, editor and researcher whose work has been published in the New Yorker, Parents, and many more.
Strange Situation: A Mother's Journey Into the Science of Attachment, is her first book inspired by the birth of her daughter who although she loved dearly, she feared she was failing. And was not the kind of mother she'd hoped to be.
Bethany spent ten years learning about the science of attachment, traveling to labs, doing training, reading archives - trying to discover what the essence of healthy attachment and good mothering really was.
To me her book is the thinking woman's guide to attachment - a helpful and healing non self help book! It is extremely well written and a pleasure to read.
Among many other incredible reviews and accolades, New Scientist called Strange Situation One of the Best Science Books of 2020.
Bethany is also a bestselling book coach, and was one of the architects of America's first Affirmative Consent Policy. She has a MFA and studied with Allen Ginsberg and is a longtime Zen student - devoted to the fine art and game-changing effects of paying attention.
She lives in the Catskills with her husband, daughter, and two dogs and I was so honoured to have her on our show.
You have to excuse my tears in a few moments throughout the interview - remembering the beauty and delight of parenting sometimes brings up grief for me.
I really hope you enjoy our talk. Bethany's book is available at all good bookstores and is also on Audible.
In this episode we chat about:
•The 3 keys to healthy attachment parenting
•How attachment parenting has nothing to do with what you are doing!
•Healing our family patterns
•How to prepare for parenthood
•The Truth About Attachment Parenting
•The Power Of Delight In Motherhood

How 92% of women want to breastfeed and initiate feeding after birth, yet 80% will give formula in week one and only 14% are still exclusively breastfeeding at 6 months. And the number one reason why mums say they discontinue feeding is PAIN. Listen out for: the importance of personalised 1 on 1 breastfeeding and latching expert support, the one thing you must never allow others to do with your newborn, the importance of HOW we hold our babies (especially their little heads) and the numerous ways systems fail families with feeding and birth and what you can do to avoid them. This was such an amazing interview I cannot wait to share it with my pregnant couples😍
I love She Births! My husband and I took the weekend class before we had our son. The birth was an amazing bonding experience for us. I have never felt more feminine than I have while pregnant and now being a mom. As for She Births, Nadine is amazing and so is this podcast.
I’m not crying, you’re crying!
So insightful + beautiful. Thank you for sharing, Nadine <3
