Diving Deeper Into Lebanese Politics

For this weeks' episode, one of our own team members, Reine, led the discussion with other members. As someone who has grown up in Lebanon and still lives there, Reine wants to bring some attention to the norms surrounding Lebanese politics. In a discussion with Americans, Reine guides our understanding of the corruption in the Lebanese government, the prominent role that religion plays in political actions, and the human rights violations currently simmering in the country.

Reproductive Health: Texas, Latin America, & Women's Rights

Amidst the passing of United States' most restrictive abortion law in Texas, Ella, Elan, Emily, and Celia thought it would be a good idea to not only touch on the implications of the new legislation in the U.S, but also how reproductive rights compare abroad. According to the Center for Reproductive Rights' map of "The World's Abortion Laws," the Latin American region had some of the most restrictive abortion laws, so it felt fitting for the group to educate themselves as to why. The group had an incredibly productive conversation, so this topic will be split into two parts. In Part Two, we will continue our conversation on Latin American countries' policy, as well as the general human right's arguments surrounding reproductive rights.

Welcome to the new 866 Politics! Anna and Ella realized that they wanted to include more global perspectives and varying opinions on their podcast, so ta da! Here's our team! Today you will just be hearing from four new members, but we have almost 30 team members total who you will meet in the near future. Our vow is to learn alongside you, not pretend to be experts. We aren't experts. We are young people trying to tear down the gatekeeping of political understanding, so we can all become more educated, compassionate global neighbors. Enjoy our first episode where we discuss what's going on with the Taliban takeover in Afghanistan, and our own individual perceptions of the issue.
