Episode 110: Race Spotlight - Route 66 UltraRun

Episode 110: Race Spotlight - Route 66 UltraRun

With these Race Spotlight episodes, our goal is to introduce a race to the Ultra Running Guys family, but, it is also not every day that you get to have as a guest, one of the legends of the sport. There is nothing cooler than to be able to learn about a race that is also hosted by a legend.

Let us tell you about the race first. Today we are talking about the
Route 66 UltraRun. The race is liking taking a journey through classic Americana. Covering 140 miles the race, the race follows the longest remaining unbroken stretched of Route 66, from Seligman to Topock66, AZ. The Route 66 UltraRun is held on the 2nd weekend of November and takes place from Saturday to Monday and has a 60 hour cutoff.

The race director is Marshall Ulrich.

Marshall Ulrich, or Marsh, is one of the toughest endurance runners of all time. He is a legend in our sport and this is just an honor.

The ultimate endurance athlete, Marshall Ulrich has run more than 130 ultramarathons averaging over 125 miles each, competed in 17
expedition-length adventure races, and climbed the Seven Summits all on his first attempts.

He is also an accomplished author of a couple of books you may already be familiar with.

"Both Feet on the Ground: Reflections from the Outside"
"Running on Empty: An Ultramarathoner's Story of Love, Loss and a
    Record-Setting Run Across America"

Episode 109: Diana Gorder - From "Impossible" to 117 Miles in 24 Hours

Episode 109: Diana Gorder - From "Impossible" to 117 Miles in 24 Hours

As recently as 2022, Diana Gorder believed that running 100 miles was a personal impossibility, an iconic feat reserved for the ultra fit. And then within a year, she set the course record at the 2022 Nutcracker Endurance Run 12 Hour (75 miles), took 1st place female at the 2023 Blackbeard's Revenge 100 Miler (18:44:08), and set another course record with the overall win at the 2023 Tideland 24 Hour with 117 miles, just 8 miles off the current 24 Hour World Championship qualifying standard. Not bad for someone who ignores her watch, runs by feel, and only has 2 followers on Strava (it's us by the way). Take us on your long run to hear how her running journey started after 5 fractured vertebrae, along with the rest of her inspiring story. Enjoy the episode!

Episode 108: Race Spotlight - Javelina Jundred

Episode 108: Race Spotlight - Javelina Jundred

Our mission is to help runners take their next step along their ultra
running journey. With this series of Race Spotlight episodes, we want to introduce you to races that you may or may not have heard of by speaking directly to the Race Directors to give you all the information you need.

On this episode, we want to welcome you to the world of Javelina. I
don't know if this is actually a race or not. Over the past several
years this race has just continued to explode in popularity. Everything about it just feels like the Woodstock of Ultra running where the entire community comes together to just have a great time out in the Arizona desert.

But there is a race that takes place in the middle of this party, and it has had some blazing fast times with Jonathan Rea setting the course record in 12 hours 43 minutes in 2023 and Camille Herron setting it for the women in 2021 with a blistering time of 14 hours and 3 minutes. The 100 mile race, known as the Javelina Jundred, covers 5 loops that wind through Sonoran desert. Elevation gain is minimal at about 1580 feet for each loop, while running on a surface of packed granite, rocks and sand.

After listening to this episode, we can guarantee that the Javelina
Jundred will show up on your list of must do races in the future. We
invite you to take a few minutes to listen to the race director of the
    Javelina Jundred, Jubilee Paige.

Enjoy the show? Please leave us rating and comment to share the love! We appreciate you taking the time to join us.

    Episode 106: Race Spotlight - Blackbeard's Revenge 100

Our mission is to help runners take their next step along their ultra
running journey. With this series of Race Spotlight episodes, we want to introduce you to races that you may or may not have heard of by speaking directly to the Race Directors to give you all the information you need.

Not every race is a vacation, but there are some races that are located in vacation destinations. The Blackbeard's Revenge 100 miler takes place in March of each year on the Outer Banks of NC. Runners travel for 100 miles in a point to point race from Corolla down to Hatteras. The race is set up to be beginner friendly, so if you are looking for a first 100 miler or a race that is flat and fast, this may be the race for you.

We invite you to take a few minutes to listen to two of the race
directors of Blackbeard's Revenge 100, Priscilla Nobles and Richard
    Swor.

Enjoy the show? Please leave us rating and comment to share the love! We appreciate you taking the time to join us.

Perfect

So good for all of us non-elites to hear about badasses in the sport. Thanks for all you and please keep it up. Jake Jackson made me want to join him in the 24-Hour World Championship!

Episode 103 with Laz

This was one of my favorite episodes of any podcast. Gary Cantrell is an icon. The documentary on Netflix was one of the first videos I watched when I started to the sport.

They’ve become part of my journey!

Recently started listening at the suggestion of a friend. I’m in the beginning of training for my first 100 (Charleston 100) and their episodes are both informative, fun and inspiring. I take a new episode on pretty much every run and I’m constantly learning something new about this awesome sport and finding new perspectives on #embracingthesuck
