ALL PODCASTS WILL HAVE A TRIGGER WARNING!
Hi, my name is Isami. I'm a former "missionary" kid who found God after leaving a religious cult. Growing up I was taught a "woman's place" in the kingdom of God was in the kitchen or as a doormat.

After leaving the environment I was raised in, I learned that God had bigger plans for me. I've found healing through, therapy, relationships, and sharing my story of survival.
I'm here to cook with the chaos and serve sandwich of religious trauma, mental health struggles, loaded with trigger warnings, straight from my anti misogynist kitchen. Enjoy!

Setting boundaries. What they are and what they're not. - The Unfortunate Sandwich Ep 14

Are you tired of setting the same boundaries over and over again with that one family member? Or do you have a friend that keeps overstepping even when you have told them that it's inappropriate? Isn't it hard to believe that someone would continue to be disrespectful? Especially since you've laid clear boundaries down?
    Or have you?
Our episode today may be a bit of a harder pill to swallow. We will be talking about what it means to set boundaries and the common mistakes we make when trying to set them.

Idle hands and my addiction - The Unfortunate Sandwich Ep 13

Idle hands and my addiction - The Unfortunate Sandwich Ep 13

Did you know that you may have an addiction you didn't know about? Have you ever wondered why you find yourself gravitating to stressful situations that you KNOW are not healthy?

Growing up in my home, abuse and stressful situations were a daily norm. I was also taught at a young age that, "Idle hands were the devil's workshop." Combining the two, it wasn't until years after I had left home that I realized I was addicted to my own stress hormone, cortisol.

Here are some of the resources we have talked about in the show:

Why I went to anger management - The Unfortunate Sandwich Ep 12

Why I went to anger management - The Unfortunate Sandwich Ep 12

I have yet to see someone who wears a t-shirt that says, "I am in therapy for anger management." It's not something most of us want to talk about. It's uncomfortable and unfortunately there is often a stigma that comes with getting help for our mental health struggles. In today's episode, I am hoping to break some of the myths behind getting help for anger. As someone who has personally gotten help for anger management, I hope you are able to feel encouraged to know that you are not alone in your struggles.

My Therapy Journey - The Unfortunate Sandwich Ep 11

In today's episode, I wanted to share with you what therapy and starting therapy has looked like for me. Having grown up in an environment where mental health was not talked about, I had no idea where to start to get help. I hope in this episode you are encouraged, know that help is available, and  that it's ok to look for it.

A genuinely good person

As an agnostic who grew up with painful emotional, physical, and spiritual abuse as a child, I can appreciate her perspective of how she came full circle and forged her own path back to God. Thank you!
