Ep. 31 - Imika Tarirú - Tubú, Ancestral Wisdom, Plant Medicine & The Word

Hey everybody! Episode 31 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Imikā Tariru Bary Vera Kuary Baru. Imika comes from the Tubú nation in the Vaupes region of the Colombian Amazon, on the Apaporis river. I have worked with Imika over the last few years and I have a lot of respect for him and his teachings. I’ve spent quite a few nights in ceremony with him hearing Tubú stories and learning from Imika’s words. He carries a deep wisdom that is born from a beautiful tradition. I think voices like his are important in sharing and keeping alive and helping to, as he says, build a new maloka (ceremonial house), bridging traditions from all directions of the world. I think you all will gain a lot from listening to this talk, much as I did. And a big thank you to my friend Claude for translating this conversation, capturing the essence and beauty of Imika’s words, and opening the conversation to a much larger audience. You can also see my interview with him in episode 10 of the show. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

¡Disfrutar!

“Wisdom keeper, Ancestral Healer and spiritual guide of the Tubú Nation. Jaguars of the Yurupari and dancer.

“I believe in the construction of a society associated with dance - the peak of knowledge and the maximum vehicle for healing, transmitted in stories. Within the dances, there are collective strategies that allow for a weaving and intersecting of paths as a way to create balance for humanity. The meaning  of dancing and listening to the stories is to be able to maintain the community healthy from within our differences.”

Imika was raised in community on the banks of the Apaporis River under the guidance of his father Hummugubu. His life in the urban context has not been easy, but in taking on the responsibility to share his knowledge with the purpose of collective healing, he has met a challenge that has brought positive results. Always ready to listen, Imika teaches by example in action, sharing freely and always ready to keep learning in this dizziness of life. Imika is the founder of the TUBÚ HɄMMɄRIMASA Urban Council and the creator of the SUARY project. These projects serve as ways to reunite the community and to interweave and color the paths of life, sharing and exchanging from simplicity, and in respect for the differences between us in daily life. They offer an alternative way of relating and a way to break down the barriers that are used to separate and classify humans.“

    Ep. 30 - Brian James - Yoga + Plant Medicine + Shamanism

Hey everybody! Episode 30 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Brian James. Brian and I met working together at the Amazonian plant-medicine center the Temple of the Way of Light. Brian is a yoga teacher and plant-medicine practitioner. I always really enjoy talking to Brian as he has a real depth of knowledge of yoga from a perspective that not many people have. He does a wonderful job at explaining the roots of the yogic practice and also how he sees the interconnection between that path and the path of shamanism. For such broad and diverse subjects, he is able to beautifully explain them in simple ways and show the universality of all of these paths. I think you all will gain a lot from listening to this talk, much as I did. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

“Brian James is a transformational coach, yoga teacher, musician and shamanic practitioner currently living Vancouver Island, Canada with his wife Debbie and their dog Kingston.

A lifelong musician, artist, and curious seeker, Brian began exploring yoga and plant medicines over twenty-five years ago. After a crisis in his mid-thirties — burned out from his job in advertising and struggling with stress, anxiety and addiction — he began his own healing journey in earnest. He’s spent the last decade learning from master teachers and exploring in greater depth the medicine paths of yoga, music, shamanism and psychology. He shares conversations with some of the teachers he’s met on the Medicine Path Podcast and has written two books: Yoga & Plant Medicine, published in 2019, and Harmonic Movement, a vinyasa yoga practice manual.

Since 2012, Brian has dedicated his life to sharing the healing power of yoga and music, and has taught around the world — from Shanghai, China to the heart of the Amazon jungle. He regularly teaches group classes and workshops and works 1-to-1 with individuals, helping them develop a personal practice and supporting them in recovering a sense of wholeness and freedom. “

Ep. 29 - Eduardo Carvalho - Plant Medicine, Dietas & Ceremony

Ep. 29 - Eduardo Carvalho - Plant Medicine, Dietas & Ceremony

Hey everybody! Episode 29 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend Eduardo Carvalho. Eduardo and I met working together at the Amazonian plant-medicine center the Temple of the Way of Light. ‘Edu’ has a really interesting story and I’ve gotten to know him and seen him do really good work. He approaches this work through his own journey of healing and knowledge and brings that depth to his work. He is a very talented musician and a genuinely nice guy with a big heart and desire to share and help. I have a lot of respect for Edu and I hope his sharing inspires and teaches. If you're in Europe or Portugal and looking for ceremonies, you'd be in good hands with Edu. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

“Eduardo Carvalho is a musician with 23 years of experience.
Four years ago he started his spiritual adventure with sacred medicine plants. The work started by going through his own process of healing by doing ceremonies in the Netherlands and dieting in Peru. On this journey it was clear that his music skill and vibration would become his new life path. At that time he was invited to tour Europe and Peru doing ceremonies with a ‘Mestizo’ shaman. After an extensive process of retreats, the time came to part ways with his shaman and then he embarked on a self-healing journey with Shipibo lineage shamans doing dietas in Peru with different curanderos.
Early this year he took a ‘curandero initiation course’ by the Ayahuasca Foundation at the Inkan Kena plant medicine school in Iquitos dieting master plants and learning all of what entails leading an ayahuasca ceremony.
The personal approach to the work can be varied between icaros from different lineages, plus the medicine songs and several different types of instruments and frequencies.
All done with love and care..”

Ep. 28 - Merav Artzi - Sacred Tobacco, Dietas & Healing

Ep. 28 - Merav Artzi - Sacred Tobacco, Dietas & Healing

Hey everybody! Episode 28 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke with my friend and colleague Merav Artzi. I have known and worked with Merav for a number of years. We did the same plant-medicine initiation and training, working with tobacco and tree diets. Merav is a great wealth of knowledge and has a depth of experience working with plant medicines. She runs ceremonies and dietas in the tobacco tradition in which she was trained. I have a lot of respect for Merav and her work. It’s one of the main reasons I decided to join forces with her and offer plant dietas together with her, joining our knowledge and offering the benefits of working with a man and woman. I think you all will get a lot out of this podcast. It’s a chance to learn about her and also more about tobacco, a very powerful and sacred plant that isn’t so well known. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

“At an early age, I left my home country of Israel to study fine arts in Europe. In 2009, while traveling in South America, I decided to go to the Amazon. The work with Ayahuasca was a gate to the magical world of medicinal plants. The Amazon is truly the pharmacy of planet Earth. I have been working for eight years as a healer trained with Amazonian plants, specializing in Tobacco. Beforehand, I apprenticed with Maestro Ernesto Garcia Torres in Iquitos. As a healer, I work with patients suffering from hormonal imbalance, anxiety, depression, addictions, trauma, and more. In addition, I give Master Plant diets and teach students who are interested in learning how to heal with Tobacco.

Tobacco is the medicine of my heart and I am here to share this medicine with the world. I invite you, with lots of love, to read about Tobacco, Plant Diets, and to take part in upcoming events.”

Ep. 27 - Tatayo - Ebando: Iboga, Bwiti, & Gabon

Ep. 27 - Tatayo - Ebando: Iboga, Bwiti, & Gabon

Hey everybody! Episode 27 of the show is out. In this show, I spoke Tatayo. I have known about Tatayo for a number of years as we share mutual friends and he comes from the same tradition that I worked with iboga with. He was called to Gabon and to iboga over forty years ago where he has been living and working ever since. It was an honor to talk to someone with so much experience working with such a powerful plant and a pleasure to hear him speak about his life, iboga, and his experiences and thoughts on Gabon and life. We spoke for almost three hours and it was a fascinating conversation and one of my favorites. I hope and think you all will get a lot out of this conversation. And a big thanks to Debbie Rivet for helping to organize and make this interview happen. To view bonus material and extended conversations, check out my Patreon page below. Enjoy!

“Tatayo (“Fruit of the Wind”) first came to Gabon in 1971 at the age of 21 and became a Gabonese citizen and settled in Libreville. He was the first white person to be initiated into the Bwiti Fang tradition in Gabon in 1979 and was later initiated into the Misokko traditions in 1994. Some would say that Tatayo has since “opened the door” to westerners in Gabon, and has served as a guide for numerous expeditions and missions including National Geographic, the BBC, and many others. He co-founded his first Gabonese NGO in 1981, which has since lead to the creation of Ebando in 1999 and is recognized as a healer and a Nima, someone who has freed and detached himself. Having initiated more than 350 banzis (initiates), he has supported hundreds of local people, or, he has indirectly supported thousands of local people, leaving a substantial positive footprint along the way.”

“Doña Wilma Pinedo is a fourth-generation Healer, Shaman, and Medicine Woman from the Andean Sacred Valley In Peru.  She comes from a long lineage of well-respected healers and teachers, and was Initiated from before birth, by Father Sky - while pregnant with Wilma, her mother was struck by lightning.

Wilma began apprenticing with her elders at the age of 2, and by age 12 she was formally initiated as a healer in the Andean tradition, reading coca leaves and using her intuition to tell people how to heal themselves, often with amazing results.

Wilma's family includes a long list of well-known and deeply revered Masters, including her father Martín Pinedo, mother María Sánchez, and great-uncle Don Benito Qoriwaman - who taught teachers Juan Nuñez del Prado, América Yabar and Oscar Miro-Quesada, and introduced Alberto Villoldo to the Q'eros nation. Her great-grandfather and a master from the Waskar Lineage, Don Melchor Desa, also taught Juan Nuñez del Prado.

Wilma learned English (a rarity in the Andes) and was one of the people asked to accompany the Dalai Lama to Machu Picchu. She uses her gift as a tool for healing, peace, and unity.”

Listen to this if you are curious about plant medicine!

Genuine heartfelt stories and quality information with no hidden agenda. Jason and his guests share what they have learned from their own direct experiences with the plants and with traditional healers of the Amazon. Not a great podcast if you have misophonia, but the content is worth the listen!
