    Alex Sigmund, DVM, DACVO, is a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist, “The Vet Eye Guy” on Instagram, and founder of Insight Veterinary Eye Care, LLC that provides continuing education and teleconsultation services. He enjoys combining his passion for ophthalmology by engaging owners and veterinarians via social media, continuing education events, and one-on-ones. Sigmund wants every veterinarian to be comfortable with the basics of ophthalmology to improve patient care and client understanding. He has plans to start his own private practice in the near future that will focus on the client/patient experience in addition to high quality medicine.  Sigmund enjoys working with exotic animals at local zoos and aquariums to ensure health and comfort for animals ranging from puffins to elephants. He completed veterinary school at the University of Georgia and a residency in comparative veterinary ophthalmology at the University of Tennessee. His publications have ranged from feline stem cell therapy to cataract surgery in raptors. Sigmund has a wonderful partner, an “old lady dog” named Asima, and a fluffy Ragdoll cat named King Louie that help occupy his time outside of the clinic.

    Learn more and register for Fetch Charlotte here today!  Mark Massaro, DVM,  was born and raised in south Jersey and comes from a family of veterinarians – both his parents, older brother, and his aunt are all vets! He graduated from the Cornell University College of Veterinary in 2019. After graduating from vet school, Massaro completed a rigorous rotating internship in small medicine and surgery at the Center for Animal Referral and Emergency Services (CARES) in Bucks County, PA. Following internship Massaro joined the family practice, where he served as an Associate Veterinarian for about a year, as well as the Marketing and Technology Lead. However, Massaro’s interests in the veterinary management / technology world grew, so he then took on a series of roles at different companies, spanning from remote work in NJ to on-site positions in Philadelphia, Houston, TX and Knoxville, TN. All of these roles centered around advancing technology in the veterinary industry, specifically relating to electronic medical record (EMR) or practice information management systems (PIMS). In 2023 Massaro returned home to south Jersey and is now the Director of Veterinary Software for VetmEDUcate, a group of 7 hospitals. These include Absecon Veterinary Hospital, Art City Vets & Urgent Care, Audubon Family Veterinary Center, Cape Veterinary Hospital, Exclusively Cats Medical Center of Medford, Mount Laurel Animal Hospital, and Pennsauken Animal Hospital & Urgent Care. Collectively these hospitals employ over 100 vets and 800 total staff. Outside of work Massaro’s interests include playing sports (soccer, basketball, tennis, volleyball), as well as hanging out and hiking with his wife Carolyn and their 3 dogs (Treeing Walker Coonhound, Miniature Poodle, and Texas Street Pitbull) and 2 cats (only the dogs hike, but not for lack of trying!). He is also very passionate about mental health in the vet profession, as well as the recent advancements in AI, and where those two things meet (i.e. AI scribes getting vets home on time!) and is very active on Linkedin!     Adam Christman, DVM, MBA talks with Dr. Tom Walsh, DVM, CCRP, MBA about some difficult cases with injured and/or aging pets, how he is able to handle them, and what made him start his own mobile rehabilitation and physical therapy clinic. About Dr. Tom Walsh: Dr. Tom Walsh’s passion for animals resulted in an abrupt turn in his life. After a successful career in telecommunications, he gave that up to become a veterinarian. And he has never looked back. After working years as a vet, he found his niche--small animal rehab. Dr Walsh established PrimePet Rehab, a mobile small animal rehabilitation and physical therapy service that treats animals at a number of veterinary clinics. Therapeutic laser is integral to his practice and is used daily to provide inflammation and pain reduction and to speed healing times. Dr. Walsh started using laser for post-op, IVDD recovery and trauma. He saw recovery for back surgery reduced from 4-6 weeks to less than half the time. Improvement in recovery time made a big difference for owners going through a traumatic event with their pets and helped the animals relax as well. After seeing the results he got from his early work with laser, Dr. Walsh expanded the scope of conditions he treats and often uses it in combination with other treatment modalities with great results.

Marshall, MPH, DVM, DABVP (Avian), earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida in 1999.  After a one-year internship she completed a residency in Avian and Exotic Animal Medicine at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Marshall earned her Master’s in Public Health degree from the University of Iowa in 2018 and is a boarded Avian specialist of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners.    Marshall spent 5 years in private, emergency and lab animal medicine in Dallas, Texas after completing her residency.  She has authored peer-review journal articles and served as Guest Editor for publications including the Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery, 5 Minute Veterinary Clinics and the Veterinary Clinics of North America.  Marshall embarked on her latest venture in 2020 when she founded Marshall Recruiting Consortium to address the lack of diversity in agriculture and animal health sciences.
