    Episode 59 The journey to Drew Hancock’s first feature film, Companion, which will be released on January 31st by New Line, is marked by talent, perseverance, and an unwavering dedication to his craft. Starring Sophie Thatcher, Jack Quaid, Lukas Gage, Megan Suri, Harvey Guillén and Rupert Friend, the film showcases Hancock’s deep passion for the horror genre, blending it with thrills, action, and a generous dose of humor.  After graduating college, Hancock headed west and took on a variety of production roles, eventually finding his way to Channel 101, a pioneering online comedy platform that predates both Funny or Die and YouTube. Channel 101 became a creative playground for Hancock, where he wrote and directed shows such as Cautionary Tales of Swords, The Mountain, and Wastelander. He even took on acting, playing “Oates” of Hall & Oates in the iconic Channel 101 series Yacht Rock.    Hancock continued to sharpen his skills in television, writing for comedy series such as Blue Mountain State (Spike TV), Mr. Pickles (Adult Swim), and Suburgatory (ABC). He also contributed to multiple high- profile award shows, including the MTV Video Music Awards, Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, and Nickelodeon’s Kids' Choice Awards. In 2018, he created My Dead Ex for Awesomeness TV, a series that earned a Grand Jury Award nomination in the Independent Episodic category at the South by Southwest Film Festival.  Determined to transition out of television, Hancock set his sights on the big screen and wrote the screenplay for Companion, a dark and twisted tale of romance gone awry. The project initially drew the interest of Zach Cregger (Barbarian) as director. However, after recognizing Hancock's clear vision for the film, Cregger encouraged him to take the helm, opting instead to serve as producer. The result is a film that showcases Hancock's confidence and skill as a filmmaker, earning him a spot on Variety’s & 10 Directors to Watch list in 2025. ✨✨✨ InstagramTikTok

    Episode 58 Megan brings her dad on the show to discuss one of his favroite films, To Live and Die In L.A. Chris Braun's fondness for telling an engaging story started when he was a substitute usher on Broadway in the early 80's. After graduating from NYU with a degree in Broadcast Journalism, he worked odd jobs until joining the Navy in 1986. Traveling throughout South East Asia tracking submarines for 4 years Braun began his 1/4 century Bay Area Advertising career. During his advertising years he wrote a screenplay he targeted for Alec Baldwin, an NYU acquaintance. He spent 15 years pursuing Baldwin with the only result being him writing an online memoir "Brotherhood of the Rejected Screenplay." In 2018 Braun produced a passion play for his hometown Buffalo Bills - "Once In My Lifetime... A Buffalo Football Fantasy". OIML won an ARTIE for the best new play in 2019. Currently Braun is working on two long time projects,"UNITAS" about NFL great Johnny Unitas & "SAVING THE KING" a fantasy meets reality take on Elvis coming back to rehab his opioid addictions.

    Benjamin Christensen's Häxan (1922) and Gothic Folklore Horror with Filmmaker Scotty Felix

    Episode 53 Felix, a grandson of storytellers who introduced him to visceral, existential tales, is a self-taught writer and director. Born and raised in Southern California, his career began with an experimental theater company on Compton Avenue, where he developed his unorthodox approach to language, image, and sound. After earning his Bachelor of Arts at USC on a full athletic scholarship, Felix's debut short film, Panorama, became Oscar-Qualified for the 95th Academy Awards in the Best Live Action Short Film category. Outside of film, he has directed viral music videos and commercials for renowned artists and brands alongside his production collective, The Sunflower Pictures. In Spring 2025, he will begin production on his debut feature film, described as a Mexican folktale set in Los Angeles. For Felix, filmmaking isn't just about telling a story—it's about finding new ways to look at the world we thought we knew.
