Baby, You're A Plastic Bag (with Ian Lockwood)

Baby, You're A Plastic Bag (with Ian Lockwood)

Swimming at Bass Pro Shop, goat paternity tests, and deep diving into why fireworks are the worst. After that, we have comedian Ian Lockwood on the pod to talk about video games, Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat, and his new EP, Nasty. For this week's Do Better White People, we're talking about how COVID-19 is affecting farmworkers and highlighting Washmasks. Washmasks is a mutual aid initiative that's collecting and distributing masks for farmworkers in Washington. For more information on the subject, you can check out these articles:
"Farmworkers are facing their own coronavirus crisis" on CNN and "Migrant Farmworkers Feed America – And They're At High Risk for A Coronavirus Outbreak" on Huffington Post.

And this week, Bari's watching I May Destroy You on HBO and Matt's watching Hamilton on Disney+. You can find Bari @finkelbaripie, Matt @MattBellassai, and Unhappy Hour on Twitter @UnhappyHourPod.

The Great Depresh (with Dulcé Sloan)

The Great Depresh (with Dulcé Sloan)

RIP free samples, RIP Sir Charles Entertainment Cheese, and diving deep into depression (it's a much more fun episode than this sentence implies). Then we've got comedian, actor, and podcast host Dulcé Sloan (The Daily Show with Trevor Noah) on the pod as our guest complainer!
For Dear White People this week, Matt recommends reading “What The Eyes Don’t See” by Dr. Mona, which is all about the Flint water crisis. We also suggest you give @littlemissflint a follow on IG.
This week, Bari watched Eric Andre’s new Netflix special, Legalize Everything, and Matt’s ripping through the AFI’s funniest movie list. You can find Bari @finkelbaripie, Matt @MattBellassai, and Unhappy Hour on Twitter @UnhappyHourPod.

Mask 4 Mask (with Padma Lakshmi)

Mask 4 Mask (with Padma Lakshmi)

Flavortown, a secret housemate, and diving deep into wearing masks. After that, we have Padma Lakshmi on the pod to talk about her new Hulu show "Taste the Nation," cuddling, and the birds that torment her in quar. Bari's and Matt have both been watching and loving Taste The Nation (and we're not getting paid to say that).
For this week's Do Better White People segment, we're focusing on voting. Because if you can find out everything about your ex's new fling in a matter of seconds, you can research who's on your ballot before you vote. Check out vote.org and ballotpedia.org to find out who is on your ballot.

    Erect THIS (with Sylvia Obell)

    Erect THIS (with Sylvia Obell)

Milky poison toads, the return of the Mayan Calendar, and diving deep into the statues we should be erecting. After that, we have journalist Sylvia Obell on the pod to talk about the TV show Friends, dating during The 'Rona, and her new podcast "Okay, Now Listen." Bari couldn't watch TV this week, so Matt watched two shows instead: What We Do In the Shadows and I May Destroy You.
Here are our resources for "Do Better White People" this week:
Matt recommends "Ways You Can Support the Black LGBTQ+ Community" on The Cut. There are many organizations you can find through that article, but we're also highlighting The Okra Project, The LGBTQ+ Freedom Fund, and The Marsha P. Johnson Institute. You can also watch the 15 minute documentary film about Marsha P. Johnson called "Happy Birthday, Marsha!" on Prime here.
Bari highlights Juneteenth and points to the Movement For Black Lives's mobilization taking place next weekend. You can find more information on their action items at https://sixnineteen.com or by texting DEFEND to 90975.

    When Pickles Fly

    When Pickles Fly

Italian ghost villages, a flying pickle, and introducing a new segment we're currently calling: "Do Better White People." We've been thinking about what we can do on this show that’s not just making a statement after a tragedy, but making activism something we weave into the fabric of the show. So in that spirit, we’re gonna take the time every single week to raise issues and talk about what we can do to help and try to make a difference. And while we don’t have a guest complainer this week, don't worry, we've got a couple of interviews up our sleeves and more on the way. So we’ll be back with those soon!

And here are the resources we’re shouting out today:

    Black Lives Matter

    Black Lives Matter

Today, we're taking time on the pod to talk about ways we can be actively anti-racist, and connecting you with resources to fight against police brutality. So we're starting this week's episode with a conversation about police brutality, the murders of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Tony McDade, the protests, and what we can all do about the injustices right now. We still want to provide some levity, some cathartic laughter, so we get into some silly animal news and our chasers as well (which we recorded last week, just for full transparency). We'll be back with a full episode next week. We love you all so much, thank you for listening!

Great Green Beans

Matt, I love your show. Pure entertainment. Your recent episode with Dulce Sloan was one of my favorites. I agree with your opinion on old school Brussels sprouts. Back in the day everyone boiled them and same with green beans. Yuck! Now that we know better, I love them both but Dulce recommendation on how to cook green beans was truly inspirational. I just made them her way for dinner. They were amazing! Keep up this wonderful podcast and sharing your insights.
