Veer Col PS Ganapathi, Mahavir Chakra

Bharat Ke Veer - India’s Defence Forces

1100 Indian Soldiers were killed during Operation Pawan in which Indian Peacekeeping Forces were sent to Sri Lanka in 1987. Major PS Ganapathi of the 8th battalion of the MAHAR Regiment was also deployed on this mission. He was executing an operation that was supposed to last twelve hours but continued relentlessly for seventy-two hours. For three days, Major Ganapathi and his team were fighting against heavy firing by the LTTE. 11 members of his team were killed during these three days. Colonel Ganapathi narrates shocking incidents and makes one wonder why Operation Pawan is not talked about like we talk about Kargil. His words spark a newfound respect for freedom and for the Veer who sacrifice themselves to protect the innocent.
