    Fake news and Propaganda

    Fake news and Propaganda

Throughout my podcast I have gone through major themes of Fake news and propaganda in the novel Variant as well as in the real world. I have spoken about how the school and students use fake news and propaganda to control others. At Maxfield Academy students are trapped and they want to escape. The things that stop them and control their behaviour is Fake news and propaganda. The school uses fear to control their actions as the students think that being sent to detention leads to death and I explained how the Media and Government used this to then lead to the Iraq war. Students from the gang Society can control how other people see things and can lead to biased attitudes towards escaping and other gangs. This can be seen from the stereotypes given to Muslims in modern society and how the US has made others biased towards them. Lastly I have made it clear that fake news and propaganda control people into doing what they wouldn’t ordinarily do, this is shown from how the students are forced to do things they dislike  such as paintball and obeying certain school rules. Most recently we are forced to accept the new restriction due to the Coronavirus as we are allowing this to happen due to information regarding the topic.  The main message of the podcast is to inform the audience about how information, fake news and propaganda can not only control us but gives people power over others.
