Lots to cover this week; incursions, excursions, playground allocations, 5/6 sport, Education Week, Ramadan…aaannnnd …we chat to our visitors from the Drama Toolbox!

Well, our Year 3’s and 5’s did it – they survived NAPLAN, and by all accounts managed the week incredibly well! The online tests went smoothly, thanks to Kristen’s tech support and the students’ positive ‘can do attitudes’. Camp Quality visited Wembley and carried out several puppet performances, all in the name of educating us about cancer care and how to support our friends and family, should they be going through difficult times. We also have some of our regulars: Storytime with Erin and Live From the Container, with Grant, who has quite a few updates for us. All of this wrapped up by Big Al, Aslan and Pancakes, who came to Wembley to teach us about Aboriginal history, their culture, beliefs and stories. 

Adding to our regular feature, Storytime with Erin, we have one of our students, Eliot, read aloud his own narrative – The Pikajeff! As well as a short story for our younger listeners, Erin reads the first chapter of The Gizmo by Paul Jennings for our older listeners. Our Year 6's discuss their experience of selecting high schools, going through various application processes, and their view on co-ed schools v. same sex schools. Some of our younger students report on several incursion and excursion experiences and finally, our hosts Mitch and Luc, pay homage to those special people in our lives – our Mums! Just in time for Mother’s Day this weekend. 

The highlight of this week’s episode is the introduction of our new feature, ‘Story-time with Erin’ - listen to Erin read aloud two short stories with wonderful humour and expression! In addition, we discuss the House Athletics Day, all things related to ANZAC Day, including some of our very own students’ poetry; and Lola Freeman of 5/6A talks about her experience teaching at a Dance Academy in Darwin. 

The Grade 5/6 cohort was extremely privileged to meet Angela Altair, the Mayor of Williamstown; she spent a considerable time with the students talking to them about her role in local politics, and what exactly a Mayor does! The Grade 5s reflect on their time at the highly popular Camp Kangaroobie, the original home of Gaga Ball and Mugby, and we meet our new First Aid Officer – Loredana.

Two main stories this week: our Year 6s reflect on their week long camp to Canberra and we hear from students and teachers about Wembley’s new House system.
