    Bonus 65 | Hannah's Poetry Anthology

Hannah's school assignment to compile a poetry anthology gave us a little window into what she was thinking during her battle with glioblastoma brain cancer.  It's my privilege to share a few of those poems today.

Thank you for joining me for another bonus episode of the While We're Waiting podcast in this year-long series in which I share our family’s experiences as our teenage daughter Hannah battled glioblastoma brain cancer from February 2008 through February 2009.  My desire is to process through the events of those twelve months with the perspective that 16 years has brought … and point people to hope in Jesus along the way.

    Bonus 64 | That's What I Like About You

One of the things I dreaded most after Hannah went to Heaven was the chore of cleaning out her locker at school ... but one of the treasures we found inside was a special blessing.

199 | Sibling Loss: The Forgotten Grievers with Bethany Sullivan

199 | Sibling Loss: The Forgotten Grievers with Bethany Sullivan

Today's episode features a presentation on sibling loss from last fall's Our Hearts Are Home conference, led by my daughter Bethany Sullivan.   My husband Brad and I also make an appearance in her presentation, and you’ll hear a very honest discussion between the three of us about things we did right and things we did wrong as we continue to parent her through her grief.  It’s a live presentation in a church, so the audio is not quite as good as if it were recorded in a studio, but hopefully that won’t be too much of an issue for you.  This is an episode you’ll want to listen to yourself first, then maybe share with your children to open up lines of communication about their own grief.  I hope it is a blessing to you.

Bonus 63 | In the Darkness

Bonus 63 | In the Darkness

Do you remember being a child alone in your bedroom at night?  I remember that I always had to sleep with my door open ... I felt so alone in the darkness if my door was shut.  I think I found a lot of comfort in just hearing my parents' voices in the living room as I was drifting off to sleep.  But what about those dark times in our lives when God seems absent ... when we just can't hear Him or feel His presence?   Today's episode discusses this experience.

    Bonus 61 | Bloodwork

Weekly bloodwork was an essential part of monitoring Hannah's response to the radiation and chemotherapy she was undergoing.  With only eight more radiation treatments and fifteen more doses of chemotherapy to go, she was "sailing through" according to the our nurse.   However, we could see that these things were beginning to take a toll.

A comforting and hope filled show

I am so thankful for this resource even though I wish I did not need it.
The episodes have given me such comfort and also educated me on how to open up discussions with my remaining children!
Thank you so much for being willing to share your story as well as others!
I also also thank Bethany for shedding light on her journey so that we can acknowledge where all of us are in this new life without Annie.

Blessing

I am so thankful for the WWW ministry! I was blessed to attend one of the WWW life after suicide retreats in Hot Springs a few weeks ago. I can’t begin to tell how it has blessed me and helped me in my grief journey. It helped to bridge the gap in my relationship to God that the loss of my son resulted in. I had totally closed God out after my son’s suicide at the age of 32. Taylor was my boy and I loved him so much. He was generally just a good person in every sense of the word. He had never really had any mental struggles until after his divorce and even then, he had some mild depression, but nothing that appeared to be detrimental. He has 2 children that he adores and was the best father ever. He would never have left them had he been in his right mind. Unfortunately, alcohol played a big role in Taylor’s decision to end his life. Since Taylor’s death 22 months ago, I have struggled so deeply and I’ve tried every medication, treatment, counseling, and group therapy there was available to me and nothing helped at all. After going to the retreat, I opened my heart back up to God and it has helped me so much. Now I listen to the podcasts all the time and I can’t say how much I look forward to listening to them, because I can relate to the stories shared while giving God all the glory for sending the WWW ministry to me when I was about to give up. Honestly, I battled the thought of suicide myself, when God opened up the opportunity for me to go to the retreat. I can’t put into words how grateful I am for Jill, Brad, and the Brown’s for this ministry, which made me realize I couldn’t survive the loss of Taylor without God.
Isaiah 41:10 (NIV)

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” ❤️

Thank You!

I recently lost my son and was not ready to go to counseling or a grief group. This has been such a blessing. To know that it’s possible to go on and eventually be joyful again is priceless. Thank You so Much❤️
