#80 - 2006 Subway 500, NASCAR, Landspeed Record, Sonic Boom, Bull Whip, & Whip Cracking!

It's episode 80 and Jill and Connor are off to the races! They kick off this episode with the 2006 SUBWAY 500. It’s NASCAR baby, and we don’t really care. But we do care about records which takes us to the LANDSPEED RECORD! Man these guys could fly; some even broke the SPEED OF SOUND which, did you know?, emits a SONIC BOOM! Have you ever heard a SONIC BOOM, let’s ask that a different way… have you ever heard a BULLWHIP crack? Well then you have heard a sonic boom! And then it’s off to the wonderful world of WHIP CRACKING! Which is an art, duh. And then we leave Wikipedia for just a moment to visit Nathan Grigg’s whip cracking rendition of Cotton Eyed Joe.

    # 76 - Operation Cobra, Bocage, Chelsea Porcelain, Cries of London, The Cut, and Henry Mayhew!

Oh it’s summer in the city and Jill and Connor need to cool off by taking a quick dip into Wikipedia!

Where do they start? Why where else but WWII and Operation Cobra! An operation that took place in France, which is full of BOCAGE landscaping. Did you know that bocage landscaping was depicted in CHELSEA PORCELAIN? You know what else was depicted in porcelain, the CRIES OF LONDON, who did all of their melodic screaming on the streets of London, specifically in the CUT. And if it wasn’t for the fabulous prose of HENRY MAYHEW, we might not even known what life was like back then. From the fields of France to the gutters of London, lets go to Europe in spirit because if you're American you can’t in reality!

#75 - Peter Van Geersdale, Fiberglass, Surfboard, Tahiti, and Paul Gauguin!

Join Jill and Connor for fun in the sun while stuck at home!

First, they visit a place they’ve been before the page of PETER VAN GEERSDALE a British conservator on the Sutton Hoo Ship Burial which we learned about in Episode 14. From there it’s a quick jump over to FIBERGLASS and then onto the coolest summer sport, SURFING! And why not take a tropical trip down to TAHITI while we’re at it? And did you know that French artist PAUL GAUGIN had a residence in TAHITI and he had syphilis. YIKES!

From hanging’ ten to sad artists with STDs let this episode be the escape you’ve been craving!

Fun and informative!

I love when you listen to a pod and the hosts come off as best friends. This pod is that plus information and WORLD CLASS accents. Connor’s voice is so fun to listen to and he can do a lot of fun voices. Jill has a great rhythm and they both work together for a vibrant, smart, yet silly pod
