Customer Reviews
Touching, Inspiring, Educational
The above are the top 3 adjectives that come to mind when I think about this podcast. I hardly ever re-listen to podcasts (or reread books for that matter), but I know I will revisit some of these episodes time and time again. Julia is a great interviewer and connects to her subjects on an emotional, intellectual, and spiritual level- you can feel how disarmed they are by her respect, thoughtful questions, and active listening skills. For example, I have heard Patti Smith refuse to talk to other interviewers about her Michigan years, but with Julia she opened up about them beautifully. I love the way Julia and her subjects bulldoze taboos around aging and death. While it is a good listen for any thinking, feeling human being, it will especially land with women of a certain age. The Isabel Allende episode destroyed me in the best possible way. This podcast is a gem!
Fabulous….except….
Love JLD and love this podcast. The content is truly exceptional. That said — and I am no prude or pious religious person — I do wish there was less cursing as related to God/Jesus, because it’s cringey and probably off-putting to a significant number of listeners besides me (and maybe even to some program guests). I generally have no problem with basic cursing vernacular, but I think maybe it’s a bit over the top and distracting here. I’m sure Julia knows her audience better than I, but since I see that others have written similar opinions, maybe this feedback will resonate going forward. Fingers crossed.
Help me understand
I admire you in so many ways. You are exceptionally talented and I have enjoyed your work immensely through the years. I am however disappointed that you’ve chosen to make Merch in association with your Pod. The manufacture of unnecessary items and the high cost doesn’t make sense to me from an environmental point of view.
