What’s wrong with men calling themselves “good blokes” with Tarang Chawla

Tarang Chawla became an activist against men’s violence after his sister Nikita Chawla was murdered by her partner in 2015. We’ve been talking about violence against women a lot on the podcast this year (and every year) because unfortunately it’s an issue that’s not going away. In this episode we invite Tarang onto the podcast for the third time to talk about men’s violence, the impact of alcohol and gambling on violence, and what you can do as a bystander to safely stand up to street harassment.  Plus Laura shares about her experience witnessing and standing up to a group of drunk and aggressive young men at the AFL Grand Final and what Tarang would’ve done in the same situation.  WE MENTIONED The ‘Stand Up Against Street Harassment’ training https://www.standup-international.com/au/en/training/landing  The first time Tarang was on the podcast in ‘The Raw Reality of Domestic Abuse and Family Violence’ https://pod.fo/e/238cc6  The second time Tarang was on the podcast ‘A topic too many people avoid’ from December 2022 https://pod.fo/e/224092 FOLLOW US Tarang @tarangchawla on InstagramKICPOD @kicpod on InstagramJoin our closed KICPOD Facebook group https://www.facebook.com/groups/630561419185145/Steph Claire Smith @stephclairesmith on Instagram & @steph_claire_smith on TikTokLaura Henshaw @laura.henshaw on Instagram & @laura.henshaw on TiktokKic @kic.app on Instagram & @kic on TikTok and kicapp.com or download the app from the App Store and Google Play Store See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Everyone told Froomes she was hot. This fuelled her eating disorder

Froomes (aka Lucinda Price) is a writer, comedian, broadcaster and author of ‘All I Ever Wanted Was To Be Hot’. Her book is a memoir-meets-manifesto about her experience with anorexia and binge eating disorder as well as exploring the pressures on young women to look a certain way. In this special conversation we sit down with Lucinda to find out why she got a nose job and breast augmentation, and how she feels differently about each surgery, how moving from Melbourne to Sydney and working in media pushed her to change her body, the moment she knew her “healthy eating” had gone too far, and how she has reached a place of total recovery. TRIGGER: We talk about eating disorders, weight loss, and disordered eating in this episode. If you need support, or want support to help someone you know, you can contact The Butterfly Foundation on 1800 ED HOPE or 1800 33 4673. Tammin Sursok battled eating disorders for 8 years. This is how she’s raising her two daughters - KICBUMP

If you’re an Australian millennial woman, you know Tammin Sursok. She played Dani Sutherland in Home & Away in the early 2000’s and Jenna Marshall in Pretty Little Liars. Tammin has been in the public eye since she was a teenager. Faced with that pressure, Tammin struggled with eating disorders throughout her teen years and early 20’s.  Now Tammin has two daughters. Her experience with eating disorders informs the way she speaks to them about food and their bodies in the hope that they will never go through what she did. In this episode Steph sits down with Tammin to learn about how eating disorders took over Tammin’s life, becoming a mum and adjusting to her postpartum body, and how she responds when one of her daughters calls herself fat. Trigger: in this episode we discuss eating disorders. If you or someone you know needs support, you can contact the Butterfly Foundation 7 days from 8am - midnight AEST on 1800 33 4673.
