    In this final episode of the season, newly officially certified YungMentors Cameron and Aya (congratulations to you both!) together with Kate discuss giving and receiving gifts. Lots of things need to be taken into consideration here: preferred love languages are  important, (And while we are on a subject, there was a whole episode on love languages). The trio agree that presents that last matter, as do those that required a lot of prep and thought. Gift cards are a big no!  

    We are taking a break with a pod for a few weeks and will be back with a new season in the new year. Happy holidays from all of us at YungMash Collective!

    In this episode, YungMentor Cameron talks to our resident expert, Sydney based clinical psychologist Michael Kirton, about the most effective psychological concepts and techniques that will help you lead a better life. 

    Self awareness is central to elevating one’s conscience: you yourself are your own best therapist. We live in a society that doesn’t readily recognise trauma, and we should be better equipped to do so. Our own memories, according to neuroscientists, are overvalued, as your brain always distorts them. Intuition, meanwhile, plays a significant role in your personal self-regulating - you just need to learn what to do about it.

    Michael shares how neurocoaching and neuroscience could support people with trauma and with painful memories. He describes the techniques we can use so we no longer are troubled by old traumatic experiences. Rewiring your brain, retraining it so it operates more often in the salience rather than default network is a lifelong task. If you want to live a more positive, happy human life, than you need to spend more time in the salience network.

In the upcoming hour the trio touch on Christianity and spirituality, helping others and living true to your own values, personal accountability and avoidance of judgement.

    Their conversation centres around removing pressure from yourself - how can we practice and learn and make effort to continually be oneself? Why is it important? Knowing who you are is not an end goal, it’s a constantly moving process. Getting to know yourself is a life-long journey.

    Practice self audit - why am I doing it or who am I doing it for? Am I enjoying it? (We are not saying everything should be fun, there is hard graft in it, you’ve got to put the hours in). Spiritually we also have to guide our parents - it might take 30 years so buckle up!

You'll learn about 'compassionate communication' and the most effective way of reaching mindful awareness and being present. Most importantly, you'll be reminded about the importance of trusting your own intuition (the brain telling you what really works for it!) and why it is so important to speak only 10-20 words at any one time.
