Dr. Robert Jackson, father of nine, believes that homeschooling is a calling, and we must be prepared to persevere in that calling. Robert and his wife have walked through raising two special needs children who have had very serious illnesses and two children who walked away from their faith for a period of time while they were in the midst of their homeschooling journey. Zan and Robert discuss the essential aspect of commitment – that you can’t give up on your calling, you can’t give up on your children, and you can’t give up on each other. A Family-Centered Education That Strengthens Bonds and Shapes Worldview | Robert Jackson | Ep. 102

A Family-Centered Education That Strengthens Bonds and Shapes Worldview | Robert Jackson | Ep. 102

Join Zan Tyler as she welcomes Dr. Robert Jackson to the podcast. Listen in as this family practice physician shares his inspiring journey into medicine, relates his compelling and sometimes funny love story, and reveals how he discovered homeschooling in the Middle East. Robert and Carlotta homeschooled their nine children from kindergarten through high school. They view their home as a sanctuary and a place of learning, love, and laughter for all of their children, including two born with serious medical issues and special needs. The Jacksons focused on developing deep relationships with their children and imparting a biblical worldview to them. Robert says, “When the children got up in the morning and had the very first hour of the day, I wanted them to spend it with me. I had a Bible study with them first thing at breakfast every day for all of their growing up years.”

Homeschooling with Hope Through Loss and Grief | Brandee Gillham | Ep. 098

Homeschooling with Hope Through Loss and Grief | Brandee Gillham | Ep. 098

Homeschooling is really the intersection of living, learning, and loving–and this often includes experiencing loss and grief. In part 2 of their discussion on homeschooling and homesteading, Zan and Brandee Gillham share the impact of grief on their lives, as well as the significance of grieving together as a family. Brandee shares her journey of grief through the unexpected loss of her father-in-law, followed six months later by the loss of their two-year-old son, Benjamin. Throughout this candid conversation, the empowering nature of homeschooling emerges as a recurring theme, with both Zan and Brandee realizing that loss and grief teach our children to become much more empathetic human beings. This often develops a heart to serve in our children and gives them the ability to encourage and uplift those in need within our communities.

Amy 5P ,

I love this podcast!

I love this podcast! I often listen while I’m out for a walk or having a cup of tea to wind down in the evenings. It might sound silly, but listening to Zan and her guests is like sitting down for a conversation with friends. (Of course, I’m not doing any of the talking! ;) It’s encouraging to hear from others who are in the same phase of life as I, and also those who are more experienced and share their wisdom.
