The Consequences of Neglecting Self-Care on the Trauma Healing Journey

Does the thought of taking a rest day fill you with anxiety? Do you find yourself making excuses to avoid self-care, or feeling like you're being selfish when you do something nice for yourself? That knot in your stomach when you try to prioritize your own needs isn't random - it's a response rooted in trauma. Today, we're exploring why self-care can feel uncomfortable, scary, or even wrong for trauma survivors. In today’s video, I talk about the consequences, from small to extreme, when we neglect self-care and honoring our needs. I’ll also break down the deeper psychological impact of childhood trauma on our relationship with self-care, and why those negative feelings come up when we try to nurture ourselves as well as the potential extreme consequences we neglect it. Let me know in the comments - what comes up for you when you think about self-care? This episode originally aired on YouTube.  Don’t want to wait for the next episode? Healing Childhood Trauma: Including Men in Trauma and Healing Conversations

Link mentioned in video - https://1in6.org/ While trauma doesn't discriminate by gender, the way we talk about it often does. Today's video is a heartfelt message to all male survivors of sexual abuse who might feel isolated or unsure if healing spaces are meant for them too. I'm sharing important insights about male survivorship, addressing common concerns, and discussing resources specifically designed for men's healing journeys. Whether you've been silently carrying this burden or are actively seeking support, this message is for you. If you're comfortable, share your thoughts below. Your voice matters in this conversation, and your presence here is valued. Remember: healing is possible, and you don't have to walk this path alone. I’d also love to hear form the women in our community. This episode originally aired on YouTube.  Don’t want to wait for the next episode? The Therapy Relationship: Knowing How and When it Might Be Time to Move On

Therapy is about healing, growth, and finding your voice. But what happens when that voice is telling you it's time for a change? And what if there is another voice telling you you’re wrong? In this video, we're tackling the challenging topic of ending a therapeutic relationship, both the desire/need and the how. I'll explain why it's okay (and important) to question if your therapy is working for you, and discuss some signs that might indicate it's time for a change. I'll also share personal stories of my own therapy endings - spoiler: it's not  easy, even for therapists! This video is for anyone who's ever felt uncertain in the therapy relationship or process, unsure if it's okay to make a change, or simply curious about this part of the healing journey. I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences in the comments. Have you ever had to 'break up' with a therapist? How did you handle it? Unraveling the Complex Web of Trauma and Mental Health Diagnoses

This episode originally aired on YouTube.  Childhood trauma often intertwines with various mental health diagnoses. In today’s video, we’ll explore the relationship between healing trauma and addressing mental health diagnoses and symptoms. Some of the things I’ll go over are how trauma symptoms can mimic or overlap with other mental health conditions; the importance of addressing childhood wounds alongside conventional treatments; understanding rejection sensitivity in the context of trauma; why medication alone doesn’t fully resolve ongoing struggles; and strategies for deeper healing. Whether you’ve been diagnosed with ADHD, depression, anxiety, or other diagnoses, I hope this video offers insights into the complex interplay between trauma and mental health. Learn how to advocate for yourself as you honor your whole self. ❤️ Don’t want to wait for the next episode? Healing Childhood Trauma: Moving beyond fear to embracing what is possible

This episode originally aired on YouTube.  Childhood trauma shapes the way we think in a lot of different ways. For years, I found myself stuck in thought patterns that weren't serving me well. It can be so hard to change these patterns, especially if you’ve been carrying them for a long time. And I know many of you can relate. If you've ever felt like your mind is working against you, or you're constantly bracing for the worst, this episode might resonate with you. In this episode, I'll guide you through a simple practice that's been instrumental in my healing process. It's a small step that can lead to big changes in how you see yourself and the world around you. I hope you’ll find this practice as helpful as I have. I’d love to hear from you in the comments. Can you relate? Share some of your experiences. Don’t want to wait for the next episode? When the Bottom Drops Out: Staying Grounded Through the Trauma Healing Process

This episode originally aired on YouTube.  Staying the course of a trauma healing journey is often the most challenging aspect to navigate. This is especially true when you find that you’re thinking about things you haven’t thought about in a long time, or maybe didn’t remember at all and when you’re feeling things you’ve (mostly) successfully kept packed away. In this episode, I share how and why we can find ourselves here and what to do when it happens so you can move through it and not give up on yourself and your healing. So, whether you're just starting your healing journey or you're well on your way, stick around. What I'm about to share might just change the way you view your progress and give you the encouragement you need to keep going. I’d love to hear from you.
