    259. Six Ways SHAME Defines Your Life And How To Change It

    259. Six Ways SHAME Defines Your Life And How To Change It

JOIN ME IN MY SUBSCRIBER COMMUNITY FOR THIS EXCLUSIVE EPISODE. I never realised how much shame has changed so much about my life. I knew I had been shamed growing up. One sentence I heard regularly was “You should feel ashamed” whenever I made the tiniest mistake. But the idea that I should feel shame didn’t resonate with me as an adult. I rejected the idea of feeling shame for anything… until I realised how deeply that core belief of shame was held within my subconscious mind.

Episode 160

You have done it again Dawn. Another great episode 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩

AnnaKas12 ,

Wow. Hair standing up.

Hello, I found this channel recently. Today, I listened to the latest episode - 124. Have to thank you and your beautiful guest for telling this story.
My hair was standing up nearly the entire time from how much this sounded like my own even down to the spilled paint at school, younger sister “golden child” weight shamed, living with grandparents intermittently, inheritance “division”.
I know the eyes too. I thought they looked almost demonic. They were so full of rage, so full of contempt.
The reason I am grateful is because this tells me that it was a pattern the dysfunctional adult chose to engage in. Even as an adult, I did wonder occasionally whether it could have been my capriciousness that caused my parents to hate me. It is clear that it was not all my fault, like I had been told many many times.
Like you, I did everything at home. I was a good student but not in my parent’s eyes. Saddest part is that children internalise that. It becomes their truth, their identity. My truth. My identity, sadly. No amount of evidence to the contrary has been effective at completely removing those mental scars.
I truly believe child abuse is a serious public health problem. It is disabling for several generations just from one such person’s influence.
To summarise, I want to celebrate your guest for walking away from that insidious harm. She has shown her daughter what it means to have self-respect, thus, she will hopefully not accept the same treatment, when someone similar to her grandmother, crosses her path in life.
This is how you break the inter-generational trauma! What a STAR!

Grateful

Thank you for sharing … I started listening to a couple of podcast some time ago .. and then started from the beginning. I’m still working through … We can learn from hearing and identifying through sometimes the unexpected. Well worth listening to all.
Blessings and thanks 🙏🏻
