Becoming a single mum is one of the most daunting and overwhelming life changes someone will ever go through. Whether you are pregnant or have teenagers, you will most likely be confused and struggling with what to do next. I became a single mum in 2013 when my daughter was just a few months old, and it has been a challenging but rewarding journey ever since. This Podcast (and the website www.singlemothersurvivalguide) was created to assist newly single mothers in all things they may need to know about.

SO WHAT IS THE SINGLE MOTHER SURVIVAL GUIDE PODCAST ABOUT?

A Podcast for single mums, made by a single mum… The Single Mother Survival Guide Podcast includes a mixture of me babbling about single mums business and interviews and discussions with different people and experts about different topics.

First off the ranks this includes an interview with a Wills and Estate lawyer which contains everything YOU need to know about getting a Will done, an interview with a financial adviser on everyday money management, savings, spending and so forth, an interview with an online security expert so that YOU know how to keep yourself secure online, an open interview with a domestic violence survivor and advocate, and another interview with a financial adviser on everything to do with insurance, and what you should think about getting insured to ensure the financial safety for you and your kids. Coming up after that I have chats with people including parenting experts, family lawyers, and a life coach.

I also chat about the social stigma of being a single mum, single parent travel, everyday tips to make YOUR life easier, dating, personal budgeting, resources out there to help YOU AND YOUR CHILDREN, child support, domestic violence, successful co-parenting, advantages to being a single mum, and the list goes on…

179 - My son saved me (part 1)

The first time my guest was hit by her partner, they were driving to the supermarket. She ended up with a broken nose and a black eye. They had been together for 6 months.
Over the following years, my guest would go from being an outgoing, creative, vibrant, excitable woman to someone she didn't recognise.
In this week's episode, my anonymous guest tells her story. She tells us about how every time her partner physically hurt her, the love-bombing would start again, how apologetic he would be, about the affairs that he had, and about how every time she called him out on his unacceptable behaviour, she would get physically attacked; strangled, pushed...her head cut open. And the cycle would start again.
She tells us about how ultimately, her then two-year-old son literally saved her life.
    She also discusses:
Co-parenting with the father of her son, and how that has evolved over the years. The beautiful bond that she has with her son, and teaching him about good relationships.  And how she has been gifted an opportunity to raise a next-generation great man. This is Part 1 of a two-part episode. Part 2 can be listened to next week.

    175 - Krystal's single mum story (Part 2)

    175 - Krystal's single mum story (Part 2)

Krystal was with her partner for seven years. They were inseparable. Krystal thought they were going to get married, have lots of children, and be together forever.
When her daughter was just three months old, and her son was a toddler she discovered her partner's secret - he was living a double life. And that is when her whole world was turned upside down.
This episode is a continuation from last week. In last week's episode, Krystal shared her story with us. In this week's episode, the story continues. We chat about the aftermath:
How she lifted herself up again. Loving her body again. Still breastfeeding after everything she went through. Celebrating the little things. Dating and what she looks for in a new relationship. Grief and the importance of feeling the pain and not escaping from it. The importance of "me-time". Losing her faith and finding it again. How she separated herself from seeing her ex-partner as just that, and instead, seeing him as the father of her children. Confronting the other woman. Loneliness and self-soothing. Co-parenting. Experiencing the joy of being in her own presence. Her goals. Being open to experiences, having eyes wide open, and not seeing things as coincidences but rather as signs from the Universe. Krystal talks about how she now sees what happened as a blessing. She also shares her advice for new single mums, as well as the best things about being a single mum. Krystal is a true inspiration, and it's so nice seeing her story end in such a positive way.
This is Part 2 of a two-part episode. Part 1 can be listened to HERE.

HMW11 ,

One of a kind podcast every parent needs!

Hi Julia.
I am a single mum of 4 and although my eldest daughter is almost 21yrs old (and I have been a parent for ALL of my adult life), I still love and value your wisdom, honesty and how much you can relate to so many different situations without judgement. I find so much calmness in listening to
to your podcast, especially when I feel so alone as a parent. Thank you for covering SO MANY diverse subjects.. and for being so lovely and genuine.. that is what sets this podcast apart from the rest. Keep on being you 💗

What an amazing podcast! Thankfully, I found Julia's podcast in the very early days of becoming a single mother and to say that it was a lifeline is an understatement! Julia, is an honest, empathetic, and selfless soul and it really shines through in every podcast. I've been fortunate enough to share my own story on here too - and through doing that I feel I've also formed a lovely connection with Julia. Thank you for drawing on your own experiences to support other women survive - and thrive as a single mother and overcome some really tough situations. After listening to many episodes, I feel energised and more positive about life! You are an amazing mother and clearly talented too. Thank you xxxxx (P.s sorry I haven't done this earlier!)

I love this podcast so much!!!

Hi Julia, just wanted to drop you a line to say how much I love your podcast. I listen to it religiously! I have been separated from my 5 year old sons dad for 1.5 years now. I have been on the journey to become a single mum by choice (with donor Sperm) for about 6 months. I haven’t had any luck with iui so far, so am about to start ivf! Anyway, just thought I would throw it out there that I’d absolutely love to hear you interview more single mums by choice, if possible! Thankyou for all that you do for us single mums. It really is great. :)
