Welcome to The Creative Kind where each episode I will answer one listener question with the help of other artists and art professionals.
The idea will be to get an in-depth answer to each question. I will try to interview at least 2 people on each topic to try to get some varied opinions.
I’m hoping for this to become a great resource for people and for it to be a space for some longer form conversations.

Jen Sievers - Can prints add value to your business?
This episode I’m talking with Jen Sievers about prints. I thought Jen would be an absolute font of knowledge on this topic because she is a NZ based artist who has recently launched a course on prints, and she has also successfully been selling her own for years in Aus and NZ. We chat about some of the challenges and benefits as well as some of the practical aspects like scanning and choosing reliable printing partners. We discuss the (maybe outdated) notion that prints will devalue originals and Jen counters with some great points about how having prints can help an artist remain accessible to a wider audience while help to build demand and visibility.
You can find Jen here and some information on her artist resources like her print course here!

Jenni Stringleman- studio spaces
In this episode Jenni Stringleman and I discuss studio spaces again, but with more of an emphasis on the benefits of a studio that is outside of your home. Jenni reflects on the transition from home-based workspaces to a dedicated external studio space and the different ways that this impacted her - from her daily approach to her work, to the mental benefits of having a 'room of ones own' . We also talk about the professional value of having a dedicated studio and the community connection that came with it.

Hannah Jensen Fox - studio spaces
In this episode Hannah and I discuss what sort of studio spaces have worked or not worked for her (she’s had 17 or more over the years so I figured she’d be the gal to ask). We discuss the importance of finding a studio space to match the stage of life you’re at, and also making any space work so that you can create when it works for you. We also chat about the importance of optimising studio spaces for creativity and mental health, and the value of connecting with other artists in a community.

Carla Grace- art tutorials and memberships
In this episode we’re looking at whether or not you should do an art tutorial as part of your art practice. Carla Grace is an artist who specialises in hyperrealistic wildlife paintings and offers tutorials and membership programs. Carla discusses the sort of artists who get the most out of her classes and has some great suggestions of what you might want to look for to help you find the right class to suit your specific needs. Carla also delves into how she navigates the art world as an independent artist and how having an understanding of her own brand and goals has helped her to create a unique and holistic career in a landscape inundated with information and trends.
Links to the two (of the many) tutorials mentioned in depth that she offers for free are here:

The fact that Julie’s a well respected artist herself makes the questions she asks so spot on. Artists do yourself a favour and tune in xo
