I think money was always the driving factor.

I think using the premise of creating a device to help people quit smoking was certainly in the mix when forming this company. A convenient angle at the time.
To let it explode on the market and then sell out to big tobacco and leave? Sorry, the people that started Juul obviously don’t run very deep. To do harm and just cash out and walk off is pathetic. Zero respect.
Good podcast - Wondery is always a solid production.

Melodramatic and mostly ads

Fair enough to include some advertising for listeners who don’t subscribe, but about half of every episode is ads; it’s too much. Also, the story is dramatic enough with out the melodramatic narration.

Fascinating- when good and clever things are not ...

what they seem!!
It happens so often good men/people ending up with unanticipated consequences. But who knew... this is fascinating.
Just the way things are but it is horrifying ... and it started so well.
