We are often there – hustling, wanting more, chasing the next big achievement, and thinking, "I’ll be happy when..." But that mindset actually keeps us stuck in a cycle of dissatisfaction. I know what I’m talking about because I used to be that person. I always wanted more, always felt like something was missing. But then I started to shift my focus to what I already had. I mean, we have so much we take for granted – fingers that can type, eyes that can see, the technology to connect with loved ones miles away. The simple things we never stop to appreciate. Don’t get me wrong – it’s not that our goals don’t matter. They do. But we get so used to the good stuff we already have that we forget to even notice it. That’s why we end up feeling numb, restless, and always reaching for something else. In fact, we’re usually overcomplicating things. The truth is simple: if all you’re looking at is what’s lacking, you’re going to miss the magic of what’s right in front of you.     For years, I thought peace was something I could achieve once I ticked off all the right boxes – success, money, relationships. But inner peace doesn’t come from any of that. What no one around me ever told me was that peace is an inside job.  They don’t talk about it, not because they don’t care, but because many people don’t know how to find it themselves. Or they simply don’t want to be disturbed by your change, especially when it goes against their expectations of who you should be.  Parents, siblings, and friends often feel uncomfortable when you start doing what serves you because it challenges their own comfort zones. They’ve gotten used to a version of you, and your growth can feel like a disruption to their reality​. So, I had to figure out for myself that creating peace meant letting go of old habits, bad relationships, and negative thinking. It meant getting uncomfortable and making real changes, not just in my external world but in the way I approached life internally. And let me tell you, when I started focusing on what brought me peace instead of what others expected of me, everything shifted. I stopped chasing success and started living with intention.     Childhood Trauma Makes You Desperate to Fit In #344

    It’s human nature to seek approval. We often mold ourselves to meet the expectations of others – friends, family, colleagues – just to feel accepted. But what happens when that approval never comes, or worse, when it leaves you feeling empty? I used to be there for years – giving more of myself even when I felt unappreciated, saying yes when I was already stretched thin, being a people pleaser, and constantly trying to fit in. I thought it would finally make me feel whole. But instead, it left me feeling anxious, unappreciated, and burnt out. So why do we do that? Why are we so quick to become what others want and lose touch with who we really are? It’s because many of us are still carrying the wounds of childhood trauma. We were told to be quiet, to follow the rules, and that our worth had to come from outside sources – whether that was from family, school, or friends.  So we continue seeking that approval as adults, unaware that we’re still acting out of old patterns of rejection and abandonment. In this episode, I’m sharing how I stopped seeking validation from others and started healing myself. I talk about unlearning toxic patterns and breaking free from the need to be accepted by everyone.     Many of us are trapped in cycles that no longer serve us, stuck in habits that keep us stagnant. We feel guilty for even thinking about breaking free because we don’t want to hurt those around us. Sound familiar? I get it because I lived that for years. I stayed stuck in destructive habits, running the same scripts in my head, thinking this was just how life was. Whether it was snorting coke, binge-watching Netflix, or just escaping in any way I could, I didn’t realize I was programming my mind for failure. The truth is – the way I was thinking was shaping my entire life. But when I finally decided that enough was enough and took the steps to change my mindset, my reality shifted completely. I let go of the old Luke and stepped into a new version of myself. It wasn’t easy. It meant making choices that left some people behind, and it felt uncomfortable, but it was necessary. Once I realized how powerful mindset is in shaping our reality, I started living a life that I'm proud of today.
