Adventure's Edge is an actual play, TTRPG podcast set in the World of Tellus. In our first campaign, "Heroes of the Vale", a group of people come together to find a cure for a deadly disease, only to be thrust into a web of increasing danger as they try to live up to what it means to be a hero. Heroes of the Vale is a story-driven game with a mix of roleplaying and action.

Early episode review

So this is an early episode review from my journey with this group so far. I commend the group in their eagerness to play and to engage in the story but there are some moments, especially in episode 1, that feel more Meta game actions as opposed to character choice actions which really broke the immersion as a listener.

The other issue so far is a weak narrative. Again sourcing back to episode one there are exchanges by multiple NPCs (played by the DM of course) but instead of any really engaging conversation we are left with moments of “and you hear [character 1] say something insulting to [character 2].” Essentially what I am getting at is we given more “tell” style story telling as opposed to “show” story telling. This is perhaps the greatest immersion destroyer I have experienced so far.

That being said, I am curious to see how this group develops as podcast producers and plan to stick around for a few more episodes to see if there’s improvement.
