    Episode 37: Removing Her Armour

    Episode 37: Removing Her Armour

Patty Smith joined the reg forces at a time there were not many other women in the Army. At 30 years service - experiencing misogyny and traumatic memories of driving amongst land mines in the fields of Bosnia - and just days away from retirement, she was ordered to be assessed for potential mental health injuries.

Medically retired, hospitalised as a result of domestic violence, and in the process of distancing herself from her biological family, everything in her life rapidly about-faced.

This Canadian Armed Forces veteran shares the ups and downs of her ongoing journey, as well as her advice for others who are struggling.

Cari184 ,

You have got to listen to this show!

I don’t write reviews. What I listen to is Private. My business. But this show is that important! If you have been diagnosed if PTSD, or if someone who loves you says you might have PTSD, or if that little voice in your head says you might have PTSD - and especially if you don’t believe any of it - you really need to listen to this show. These are people who have been there, done that, and maybe you might recognize yourself in their accounts. And the host, Larry, does such a great job of listening and asking the questions you would ask if you were sitting and listening too. No judgment. No psych babble. Be kind to yourself and listen. And use what you learn to take better care of yourself. And then spread the word. Good mental health support is too important to keep to yourself.

The brutal truth

I was told to give this podcast a listen by a fellow Paramedic very shortly after my diagnosis with PTSD. Being new to this world…. I was lost. I still feel lost to be honest, but listening to Larry and his guests showed me that I wasn’t alone as much as I thought. So much resonates with me, I felt a small weight off my shoulders after the first episode. Then, like any amazing tv series, I binged it all until I was caught up. It was the first time I felt not alone. Thank you Larry for being such a warrior, a hero and a true inspiration to us all. IGY6

Totally hooked!

Thank you Larry for stepping up and being our voice and for making us not feel so alone in the world! IGY6!
