WHITE WOMAN CHARGED OF KILLING AJIKE “AJ” OWENS

WHITE WOMAN CHARGED OF KILLING AJIKE “AJ” OWENS

A white Florida woman has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of her Black neighbor, Ajike “AJ” Owens.According to the New York Times, 58-year-old Susan Louise Lorincz, who is white, was charged with manslaughter with a firearm, culpable negligence, batter, and two counts of assault in connection to Owens’ shooting, the Marion County Sheriff’s Offices announced Wednesday (June 7).Charges followed days after civil rights attorney Ben Crump, who is representing the Owens’ family, shared details and has been keeping the public updated on the case.

Crump said Owens was shot and killed on Friday (June2) after one of her children accidentally left their iPad in a field they were playing in near an apartment complex in Ocala.According to Crump, a white neighbor, identified as Lorincz, called the children racial slurs and yelled at the children to “get off her land.” He said the woman took the iPad that was left behind by one of Owens’ children.

When the child went back to retrieve his tablet, the woman allegedly threw the device, which hit him and cracked the screen. Owens went to the neighbor’s house after her child told her what happened. When Owens arrived at the door, Crump said the woman shot her through the door.Owens was taken to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Prior to the shooting, police said that Lorincz became angry at the children playing in the field close to her home. She began arguing with them while throwing roller skates and swung an umbrella at the children.Protests begin to form in the area demanding that Lorincz be arrested. Lorincz told police that she acted in self-defense. After an investigation, the sheriff’s department shared that Lorincz’s actions were not justifiable under Florida’s stand-your-ground law.

11-MONTH OLD DIES AFTER PARENTS LEAVES HER IN HOT CAR WHILE IN CHURCH.

11-MONTH OLD DIES AFTER PARENTS LEAVES HER IN HOT CAR WHILE IN CHURCH.

The Danger of Leaving Your Child in a Hot Car: A Fatal Mistake

The scorching heat of a parked car under the blistering sun can quickly become a death trap for any living being left inside, especially vulnerable children. Every year, tragic news headlines remind us of the devastating consequences of leaving a child unattended in a hot vehicle. This preventable mistake has claimed countless innocent lives, causing immense grief and raising concerns about parental responsibility and public awareness. It is crucial to understand the grave dangers associated with leaving children in hot cars to prevent such tragedies from occurring.

Rapid Heat Buildup: Vehicles act as heat traps, intensifying temperatures at an alarming rate, even on moderately warm days. Studies have shown that the temperature inside a parked car can increase by 20 degrees Fahrenheit (11 degrees Celsius) within just ten minutes. In an hour, that temperature can surge by over 40 degrees Fahrenheit (22 degrees Celsius), regardless of whether the windows are slightly open. The confined space, combined with the greenhouse effect, can turn the car into an oven, exposing the child to potentially life-threatening conditions.

Heatstroke and Dehydration: Young children are particularly susceptible to heatstroke, a condition that occurs when the body's core temperature rises to dangerous levels. When left unattended in a hot car, a child's body struggles to regulate its temperature, leading to rapid dehydration and overheating. The consequences can be severe, including organ failure, brain damage, and even death. Their smaller bodies heat up faster than adults', making them more vulnerable to these life-threatening conditions.Unintentional Traps: Tragically, many incidents involving children left in hot cars are unintentional. Parents and caregivers can become preoccupied or overwhelmed, inadvertently forgetting that their child is in the backseat. Sleep-deprived parents, a sudden change in routine, or a child who falls asleep unnoticed can contribute to these devastating incidents. It is crucial to raise awareness about the potential risks and implement preventive measures to avoid such heartbreaking accidents.

Preventing Hot Car Tragedies: To prevent these preventable tragedies, it is essential to take proactive steps and ensure the safety of our children. The following measures can help mitigate the risks:Never leave a child unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes.Place a reminder in the front seat, such as a cellphone or wallet, to prompt you to check the backseat before leaving the car.Develop a communication system with childcare providers to ensure the child's safe arrival.Educate friends, family, and caregivers about the dangers of leaving children in hot cars.If you see a child alone in a parked car, immediately call emergency services.Public Awareness and Responsibility: Raising public awareness about the dangers of leaving children in hot cars is crucial. Governments, organizations, and the media should consistently highlight this issue to ensure that every parent and caregiver understands the potential risks. By working together, we can promote responsible parenting and create a culture of vigilance to protect our most precious assets: our children.

Conclusion: The danger of leaving a child in a hot car cannot be overstated. As responsible members of society, it is our duty to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions to prevent these tragic incidents from occurring. By spreading awareness, implementing preventive measures, and emphasizing personal responsibility, we can work towards eradicating these avoidable fatalities and ensuring the safety and well-being of our children. Remember, it only takes a moment of negligence for a tragedy to unfold, so let us strive to protect our little ones and...
