Dr Liz Marles RACGP Future Leaders podcast series

Dr Liz Marles is a past President of the RACGP and is currently the Director of the Hornsby-Brooklyn GP Unit (NSW Health). Having had a first career as a high school teacher in Victoria, Liz started medicine at the age of 28, and had her first child at the end of her intern year at Hornsby Hospital. She undertook GP training combining part time clinical placements with work as the NSW RLO and then as an Academic registrar at the University of Sydney. For 15 years, Liz worked as a GP at the Aboriginal Medical Service in Redfern , and has continued her interest in aboriginal health through the establishment of the Bungee Bidgel Clinic at Hornsby Hospital.

Liz’s current interests remain in evidence based clinical practice, education, therapeutics and health equity. Since completing her term as RACGP President, Liz has taken on a number of leadership roles , including as Chair of Therapeutic Guidelines, member of the Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee , member of Cancer Australia Advisory Council, and as a board member of GP Synergy. She also participates in multiple state and federal government committees, concerned with health policy and remains a member o the RACGP NSW and ACT faculty.
