Mary is the author of ‘Relentless: The Inside Story of the Cork Ladies Footballers’, and the author of Cora Stauntons autobiography ‘Game Changer’, for which she won the An Post Irish Sports Book of the Year award in 2018. She is also an advocate for diversity and inclusion in women’s sports.

    Mary talks to us about how she went from playing inter-county football to taking the initiative to write and promote ladies football, as well as being a part of other national teams in sports such as tag rugby and basketball. During this time she brings us along her journey as she tells us how the opportunity to write Relentless came along, as well as Cora Staunton’s autobiography. And so much more.

    In episode 17 we had the pleasure of chatting with Dr Cliodhna O’Connor. Ciodhna is a post-doctoral researcher with the National Suicide Research Foundation. She previously worked on the My World Survey, the largest national study of youth mental health conducted by UCD and Jigsaw - the national centre for youth mental health. Cliodhna graduated with a PhD in Psychology from UCD in 2018. Her research focuses on risk and protective factors of mental health and the use of technology for improving wellbeing. As a former primary school teacher Cliodhna is interested in bridging Psychology and Education to improve mental health.

    Cliodhna talks to us about her journey, what lead her down the road to become a researcher, and more, as we discuss the importance of mental health, especially given the current climate.

    In episode 16 we chatted with radio personality Kayte O’Malley. You may recognise Kayte’s voice as she MC’s for Flirt FM, iRadio and Spin Southwest, so you’ve bound to have heard her at some point. She is also the recipient of the Bronze Newcomer Award from the IMRO Radio Awards. And she’s hun-trepreneur.
    Kayte shares with us her rollercoaster of a journey with her first stepping stone navigating a degree in Law from the University of Limerick, to presently MC’ing on 3 radio stations. Between all that though she completed a Masters in Irish Studies, as well as a number of other courses and diplomas. Some of which included Digital Marketing, Creative Writing, Radio Programme Production, Starting Your Own Business, and much much more. She really loves to learn. Not to mention her first nomination and her Bronze award win at the IMRO Radio Awards for best newcomer.

    In episode 15 we had the pleasure of chatting to Anne Griffin. Anne is the Irish No. 1 best-selling author for her debut novel ‘When All Is Said’, and she was also awarded Newcomer of the Year at 2019s Book Awards.

    Anne explores and shares the journey she went through – and how she wouldn’t change a thing about it – starting with a BA in History in UCD, then after college she worked for over 8 years in Waterstones bookstore, where her love for books flourished. That’s not where her writing career started though, in the years that followed Anne acquired qualifications in Community & Youth Work, Accounts Technician and lastly in 2015 a MA in Creative Writing. But we’ll leave all the story telling to Anne in the new episode of Next Gen Fem.

    In episode 14 we are joined by Cora Lambert. Cora is a final year Zoology student who aspires to be the next David Attenborough. After listening to this episode you’ll believe she is well on her way to achieving this.

    Cora shares how she found herself on the path of Zoology, and how it was something she was always destined to do. She explains how she ended up working closely with reptiles and arachnids when she comes from a family of  arachnophobes, introducing us to her pet lizard Nova. Cora also shares her ambition to study venom and its potential uses for medicinal purposes. There was a lot to learn in this episode.
