    Where did my INSPIRATION go?

    Where did my INSPIRATION go?

So many of us are trying to make an impact in this world. We feel a need to create something bigger than ourselves don’t we. We zone in on a book, a project, or a business and we start moving that pen or swinging the hammer with a level of energy and motivation that feels like rocket fuel. But, what do you do when the purpose fades? How do we keep going when the tank hits “E” and it feels like meaning has left us? Where did our Inspiration go and how do we get it back to complete on the big work that we’ve started. Well, I’ve been there too my friend and we’ll dig into that hard in this Rooftop Episode. I’ll see you on the other side.

The Cost of Broken Promises in a Broken World

The Cost of Broken Promises in a Broken World

What does a promise mean to you? What’s it cost to break it? Unfortunately, we’re seeing the answer to this question in epic proportions across all levels of civil society today, to include national security and community engagement. The question we’ll explore in this Rooftop Podcast Episode is, as leaders, parents, teachers, and citizens do we have what it takes to re-commit more deeply to the promises we make and restore the trust in the places where the promises have been broken? That’s our focus in this epsiode. And based on the things happening to the left and right of us, it’s overdue. Our communities, our families, our nations, and even our species might just depend on it. Pour a beverage and lean in. You’re not going to want to miss this one.

I'll see you on the Rooftop,

    Scott

Waterline Article #18: Be Vulnerable, but More Importantly... Be Relatable

Waterline Article #18: Be Vulnerable, but More Importantly... Be Relatable

This episode will help you accelerate trust while others seem to throw it away at every turn. If you have trouble with vulnerability, substitute relatability. People follow leaders they can relate to. This comes from the invisible truth that we are all creatures of struggle. It comes down to psychological safety, connection, and shared vision. When seeking vulnerability, ask yourself, “Am I relatable to my employees right now?” Often, we find our greatest relatability to the other party in our struggles and authentic stories that help them relate to your perspective. Or better yet, our questions that help them see themselves as the hero in the story. this is the secret sauce to connecting in low-trust times.

    CONTEXT ON THIS SERIES

In 1917, T.E. Lawrence, who you might know as Lawrence of Arabia overthrew the Ottoman Turks in WWI in modern-day Iraq and Syria, using strategic human connections at the local level. He did so by going into tribal environments and creating a level of trust that unified various tribes around one thing that they could all agree on through storytelling of ‘what could be.’ He wanted to help others who followed behind him do the same so he wrote The 27 Articles to share with them.

Scott has taken these Lawrencian skills and adapted them to the Rooftop Leadership methodology and in this series will share the 27 Waterline Articles for the Rooftop Leader with you so that you are better equipped to lead through the disengagement, distrust, and distraction brought on by prolonged isolation, low trust, and uncertainty. If you’ll lean into these and integrate them into your life and business, you will be more attuned to the people you lead and be able to look at human behavior in a new way that allows you to lead at a higher level.

Deja Vu All Over Again: Ahmad Massoud, Congressman Mike Waltz and Legend

Deja Vu All Over Again: Ahmad Massoud, Congressman Mike Waltz and Legend

Did we learn anything from 9-11-2001? More importantly, did we learn anything from the events leading up to 9-11-2001?

For months, prior to the attacks, the leader of the Afghan Resistance Movement, Ahmad Shah Massoud tried over and over again to warn the U.S. and the West of an impending attack by al Qa’ida. His warnings were ignored as he continued his fight against them and the Taliban with almost no support from the U.S.

Just days before the worst attack on our homeland, Massoud was killed by suicide bombers dispatched by bin Laden. AQ knew we would come to Massoud after the attack attempting to partner since we had no other allies in the country.

After the botched Afghan Withdrawal, over 27 violent extremist organizations have flooded back into the country, training on the former Coalition Bases, under the tolerant protection of the Taliban, and in flagrant violation of the International Doha Agreement.

Ahmad Massoud, the son of the Lion of the Panshir, continues the fight. For the first time he appears on a public broadcast with a U.S. elected official, Green Beret Congressman Mike Waltz. They are joined by the Afghan-American, former Army NCO - Legend - who has returned to Afghanistan multiple times to help evacuate at-risk Afghans and American Citizens.

The topics in this podcast will blow your mind. What’s happening in that terrorist playground is beyond the pale.

Will we learn from our past? Do we even care? Join us and decide for yourself.

As the wise Yogi Bera exclaimed, "It’s Deja Vu all over again."

Waterline Article 17: Leaders Who Can Restore Relationships Own Every Room

We’re going to dive into some serious tactics that work in business boardrooms and community centers as well as they work in tribal villages. The power and impact of getting below the waterline and restoring relationships give you a competitive edge. Leaders who can assess trust gaps and restore relationships quickly are always going to be sought after. It won't be easy, but it'll be worth it in the end.
