Why UK Bosses Need More Skin in The Game
Activist investors are on a mission to persuade large British businesses to move from London’s stock market to those of New York. Liad Meidar, founder and managing partner of Gatemore Capital Management, joins this week’s episode of Merryn Talks Money to discuss what’s driving this westward push and the steps London can take to head it off. The main incentive for companies to drop London for the Big Apple is the valuation gap. FTSE 100 companies trade at little more than half of the valuation of those on the S&P 500 on a forward price-to-earnings basis. The reason? Meidar says it’s the cost of capital, the UK takeover code and how board members are incentivized. Address those issues, and you’re on your way to solving the problem.

What about Tech USA
Love the show Merryn but why do you so rarely cover tech stocks or comment on the performance of the Nasdaq. This weeks episode the guy was waxing lyrical about UK (again) and when you compare performance of pretty well any time period 10days / 1 month / 3 months / 6 months the Ftse100 and 250 are soundly beaten. I get that it’s only the future that counts but it doesn’t seem totally balanced if I am honest which is a shame. Still, I do take a lot from the show and some wise points of view …. and my tech fix comes from Bloomberg Tech. Just thinking anyone that acted on the hunches for years that UK market was about to bloom would be significantly poorer comparatively the an if they had stuck there money in world, s and p or Nasdaq
All the best and thanks again for a great show
