#103 Akhil Patel: The Power of Cycles, where the bull market might end

#103 Akhil Patel: The Power of Cycles, where the bull market might end

Akhil’s expertise is in property, economic, and stock market and commodity cycles. He became interested in economic cycles during his school years when he came across Henry George’s 'Progress and Poverty', which explained why economies go through periods of boom and bust. Later on, he witnessed the negative effects of not understanding economic cycles when his family’s business went through difficult periods during the major recessions in the early 1990s and during the global financial crisis after 2008. He became determined to develop a body of work that would help people – particularly investors - so that they could grow and preserve their wealth during the course of each economic cycle.

He is currently a Director of Property Sharemarket Economics, a subscription service to provide investors with guidance on how to take advantage of short- and long- term cycles. He is also a contributing editor to Frontier Tech Investor, published by Southbank Investment Research. His work has also been featured in a number of media outlets including the BBC and dedicated investor or professional publications, such as _MoneyWeek, Estates Gazette, PropertyWeek and Family Office Real Estate.

Akhil has professional experience in audit, government and international banking and has worked on a range of issues from reviewing large infrastructure public private partnerships (PPP) deals to helping establish the UK’s £3 billion International Climate Fund. He has two Masters Degrees (in Finance and Public Policy) and a first degree in the Classics from Oxford. He is also currently a principal policy advisor to the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD).

Phil Dawson ,

Entertaining, informative and a joy to listen to!

I discovered this podcast whilst researching investment funds and I’m hooked! The shows a real easy listen and I’ve enjoyed both Tim and Paul’s forthright views over many bike rides during COVID lockdown! Keep up the great work, would love to hear an episode debating tech/growth and high valuations vs value investing, perhaps I’ll find one as I work through old podcasts. All the best.

What has SOTM done for me

Just listened to ep95 but have wanted to review for a while - a huge thank you to my favourite Podcast and trust me I listen to a few - I have just retired and now enjoying discovering what to do with the next 🤞30 years - informative educational challenging. at times spicey and confrontational but always entertaining - thank you so much keep up the good work and how about a live with audience episode at some point post C19 - put me down for the first ticket 🤪 PS my fav guests Dom Frisby and Rory Sutherland

Finance and fun at its best!

Informative, funny, and educational! You will learn more here than anything you read in The Times, FT, The Telegraph and other MSM channels. Well done! Keep it going.
