    Stretching, back pain and diastasis recti..A big Q&A!

    Stretching, back pain and diastasis recti..A big Q&A!

    This week I take the time to respond to your questions.

    We've had some great podcast guests on this month and you've sent in a few emails on the back of it which I will answer.

    So what am I talking about;

    Is diastasis an adaptation and can we just ignore it until you feel there is an issue?

    Is muscle activation something that you should focus on at all?

    Why I use different language than Antony does.

    Should you REALLY never stretch or is that not really what Aaron said.

    Why is back-pain still soo poorly understood and often ignored.

    Can I get surgery for my diastasis and will that resolve my back pain?

    and much, much more.

    Post-partum back pain and how to fix it. Interview with Physical Therapist David Jeter

    Post-partum back pain and how to fix it. Interview with Physical Therapist David Jeter

    This week I have the pleasure of being joined by David Jeter who is an awesome physical therapist. We're talking post-partum back-pain and the benefits of physical therapy and exercise generally.

    We discuss many, many things including;

    What is post-partum back pain and what causes it?
    Is surgery THE solution?
    Why is post-partum backpain soo often ignored by both the medical community and those suffering from it?
    Why are people not aware just how effective physical therapy is to deal with back-pain?
    How the PT community is doing a terrible job of promoting the benefits of exercise and is spending too much time selling cheap-tricks.
    And how you can help yourself if you're suffering from any sort of muscle related pain.

    In the news this week, this article from the American Association for Cancer Research which demonstrates nicely how certain myths don't die out.

    I hear the following phrase a lot in my daily life "A glass of red wine a day is good for you" and it's just not true,
    ALL types of alcohol raise the risk of certain cancers, which is something to be aware of.
    HOWEVER...That doesn't mean drinking gives you cancer..stuff like this isn't black and white.

    STOP STRETCHING!! Is stretching doing more harm than good? Interview with Yogi Aaron

    This week I have the pleasure of being joined by Yogi Aaron!

    Aaron is the Co-Owner of Blue Osa Yoga Retreat & Spa in Costa Rica where he leads The Yogi Club Yoga Teacher Training Immersions year-round for students from all across the globe. He's also a podcast host and author.

    More importantly, he's a great podcast guest who explains his ideas very clearly and talks a lot of sense! You're going to LOVE this episode.

    Amongst the many things we're covering are;

    What the function of muscles actually is and why stretching goes against it.
    Why stretching is killing your gains and potentially causing your injuries.
    Why stretching, and most warm-ups, before training simply does NOT make sense.
    Why we should ban saying "Listen to your body".

    And much, MUCH more.
    Get your copy of Yogi Aaron's book, "Stop Stretching! A New Yogic Approach To Master Your Body and Live Pain-Free."

    Visit Aaron's excellent YouTube channel

    Do we need a new approach to dealing with Diastasis Recti? Interview with Antony "The Physiodetective" Lo

    Do we need a new approach to dealing with Diastasis Recti? Interview with Antony "The Physiodetective" Lo

    This week I have the pleasure of being joined by Antony "The Physio Detective" Lo.

    You'll have heard me mention Antony before, he is one of my favourite people in the post-partum fitness space, he clearly gives things a lot of thought and knows how to communicate his ideas extremely well

    Obviously he's also remarkably well qualified.

    Antony is a physiotherapist from Australia that works at the junction of Musculoskeletal, Sports, and Pelvic Health treatment, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement.
    Antony is also the founder of My PT Education, an educational platform dedicated to helping health and fitness professionals to “Do Something Different”.
    He has been studying and working in Physiotherapy since 1993. During this time, he has earned his degree in Physiotherapy, a Masters in Physiotherapy, and took part in the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Specialisation training program – the highest form of training a physiotherapist can take in Australia.

     So we talk many things including;

    The "be afraid, be very afraid!!" nonsense with regards to diastasis recti needs to stop.

    Soft doming Vs hard doming.

    Why thinking about the muscle during exercise is the wrong way to approach an exercise.

    Why diastasis is not an injury but an adaptation, and why that matters.

    That diastasis recti is not a problem unless the person who has it says it is.

    Whether diastasis leads to other issues such as lower back pain or if there's a link between diastasis and pelvic floor problems.

    Could diastasis during pregnancy actually be preventing prolapse? IOW, is diastasis actually a good thing, rather than something to be concerned about

    Why not everything people associate with diastasis is actually caused by diastasis.

    Why a lot of terms used in post-partum recovery programs, such as "diaphragmatic breathing" actually don't mean that much but just sound important.
    .
    And one of the BIGGEST fallacies in physio treatment/personal training etc. "If something is better after you've come to see me..that's because I'm a genius! And if it didn't work, it's because YOU did something wrong"

    And much more.

    If you're a fitness professional working with post-partum women, or even if you're not, this is a must listen!

    You can find Antony in all the usual places but remember that he's also coming to the UK at the end of January!

    You can find all the dates, and book the course, here
    You can also find all other courses he does here
